NSW proudly launched the inaugural Rural Showcase in August 2024—an innovative initiative designed to engage metro-based and composite registrars and highlight the diverse opportunities in rural general practice.
The event brought together practices from areas of need, offering a platform to share insights into rural medicine, career pathways, and the unique rewards of working in rural communities.
Building on the success of our initial program, we’ve expanded invitations to over 30 rural locations across NSW and the Northern Territory, including Inverell, Moree, Deniliquin, Broken Hill, Griffith, and many more.
On 6 August 2025, we delivered our third Showcase at CommBank Stadium, welcoming nearly 200 registrars. The event continues to provide meaningful connections, and a clearer understanding of how rural placements can support fellowship training.
The Rural Showcase is more than an event—it’s a growing movement to strengthen the rural health workforce and inspire the next generation of rural GPs.

The RACGP has issued a call for life-changing reforms that would make diagnosis and treatment more accessible and affordable, by empowering specialist GPs across the country to practise to their full scope.
Why does this matter?
- Untreated ADHD costs Australia more than $20 BILLION yearly.
- Early intervention can change lives: untreated ADHD is linked to a significant reduction in lifespan and increased socio-economic impact.
- Existing wait times and costs, especially in rural and disadvantaged communities, keep families from timely support.
Queensland’s model shows how GPs can transform ADHD care by providing accessible, whole-of-person support for children and adults alike. With current reforms, we could see similar life-changing results on a national scale.
The RACGP’s vision is clear: Empower our most accessible medical professionals to make a difference. Removing red tape and leveraging GP expertise will help thousands thrive and bring much-needed relief to families and the health system.
Let’s support initiatives that improve health outcomes, reduce economic strain, and make ADHD care accessible for all Australians.
