A Victorian first for brain treatment at Epworth Richmond!

Epworth and Icon Cancer Centre are bringing world-class Gamma Knife technology to Epworth Richmond in 2026. This non-invasive treatment uses pinpoint radiation to target brain tumours and neurological conditions with unmatched precision.

It means faster recovery, fewer hospital visits and more treatment options for patients.

This collaboration builds on more than a decade of partnership between Epworth and Icon and marks the next phase of delivering world-class care.

Supporting recovery and wellbeing after prostate cancer surgery 💙

As part of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, more than 40 people attended the Whitten Wellbeing session at Epworth Richmond - an informative event focused on life after prostate cancer surgery.

Led by Research Program Manager Thilakavathi Chengodu, the session covered key areas of recovery including diet, exercise, emotional wellbeing and the support available throughout treatment.

This inaugural event was proudly supported by Epworth Medical Foundation and is set to become a regular part of the Whitten Centre's support program for patients undergoing prostate cancer treatment at Epworth.

Together, we are building a more informed community for those navigating recovery.

🚨 Medical milestone alert!

Epworth Eastern is the first hospital in Victoria, and the first private hospital in Australia, to introduce the Ion robotic bronchoscope, a high-tech machine used to collect tissue samples from the lungs.

The technology uses a built-in navigation system to help respiratory specialists reach hard-to-access areas of the lung, that can’t be reached using traditional methods.

From coffee catch-ups between colleagues to a panel discussion featuring Epworth staff from a range of specialty areas, the day reminded us that asking “Are you OK?” can make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who took part and to Epworth Medical Foundation and their generous community of donors for making the day possible.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month ❤️🩸 and across Epworth, our team from the Epworth Centre for Immunotherapies and Snowdome Foundation Laboratories were busy highlighting awareness about blood cancer and the work being done to understand, treat and overcome it.

Since the Centre opened in 2021, our passionate team of haematologists, oncologists, and researchers have been researching treatments such as CAR T-cell therapy, to give our patients access to a range of life-changing clinical trials.

Stitching hearts and spreading kindness 💛

Volunteers, consumer advisors and Epworth staff came together for a “Sip and Sew” drop-in morning tea prior to Patient Experience Week. Together, they hand-stitched more than 200 felt pocket hearts – many continuing to sew even after they reached this remarkable number.

Each heart was gifted to a patient with a message: “This pocket heart has been lovingly handmade by our volunteers to share and spread kindness and care. Keep it close and give it a gentle squeeze whenever you need a reminder of love, hope, courage and comfort.”
