Vaginal atrophy- this is when oestrogen levels decrease with age and the vaginal tissue lining and v***a can become thin and tear/split (generally the onset begins during perimenopause, but splitting can also be from Lichen Sclerosis).
Chaffing, dryness, can even cause the use of toilet paper to be uncomfortable.
Vaginal pe*******on can be painful and bleeding may occur.
What are the treatment options?
Once a health history is taken and differential diagnosis has been addressed, you can:
- have a vaginal microbiome analysis to check your lactobacillus levels
- use natural pessaries of lactulose or probiotics that feed the bacteria that boosts oestrogen levels
- use topical oils to soothe and support vaginal atrophy and minimise tearing
- use alternative options for intimacy, alone or with a partner
- seek medical support from your GP or gynaecologist if your curious about using hormone treatment
- chat to a professional if your symptoms are affecting your mental health or relationships
