The Doctors that consult at East Ryde Doctors, are dedicated to training the next generation of doctors, ensuring they develop not just clinical knowledge but also the human connection that lies at the heart of general practice. Medicine isn’t just about textbooks and test results—it’s about understanding people, their concerns, and their health journeys.

Today, Dr. Nicole Chater is guiding her medical student through an in-depth discussion on menopause—an important stage of life that impacts women in many different ways. From hormonal changes and symptom management to the emotional and psychological effects, menopause is a complex transition that requires a compassionate, patient-centered approach.

By involving medical students in real-world consultations and discussions, we help them gain the experience and confidence needed to support patients through every stage of life. Through mentorship and hands-on learning, we’re shaping the future of general practice—one lesson at a time.

Dr. Greg Spark founded East Ryde Family Medical Practice (now East Ryde Doctors) in 1988 and serves as the practice owner and director. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1980, he worked as a resident doctor at Concord Hospital. He then moved to Northern NSW, where he gained broad clinical experience at Lismore Base Hospital. 🏥

In 1983, Dr. Spark began his General Practice Training in Sydney, working at various locations. After a year of travel, he resumed hospital work in the United Kingdom, where he trained in obstetrics and gynaecology at a hospital in Sunderland. He returned to Australia in 1984 and worked as a country GP in Evans Head until 1987.

In 1988, Dr. Spark settled in East Ryde, succeeding Dr. Mark Goyen as the local GP (previously, the role was held by Dr. Stuart Fox). Dr. Spark has been serving the community ever since, treating generations of local families.

Over the years, Dr. Spark has gradually expanded the practice to meet the growing needs of the local community. He enjoys all aspects of general practice and family medicine, with a particular interest in preventive health, chronic disease management, and health education. Dr. Spark also supervises medical students from local and regional universities, helping to prepare the next generation of GPs.

Outside of work, Greg enjoys a busy life with his wife, three children, and one stepdaughter. He’s passionate about golf, energetic weekend squash sessions, music, and travel.
