Most Australians know the importance of sun protection, but fewer realise that skin cancer risk isn’t the same for everyone.

Your daily lifestyle plays a bigger role than you might think.

☀️ Time in the sun adds up - even through everyday activities like driving, walking, or gardening
🧴 SPF matters - but only when applied properly and reapplied regularly
👶 Past sunburns, especially in childhood, can increase long-term risk
🧬 Your skin type and number of moles also influence how your skin responds over time

At GPs on Curzon, we help patients understand their individual risk and what that means for their skin moving forward.

💡 The goal isn’t to avoid the sun completely; it’s to be aware, consistent, and proactive.

📅 If it’s been a while since your last skin check, now is a good time to book - https://gpsoncurzon.com.au/appointments/

Around 250,000 Australians live with epilepsy, yet misconceptions about the condition are still widespread.

This Purple Day, GPs on Curzon is helping raise awareness and understanding.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes recurring seizures, which can vary greatly from person to person.

Some seizures are obvious. Others can be brief moments of confusion, staring spells, or sudden changes in awareness.

With the right medical care and support, many people with epilepsy are able to live full and active lives.

If you or a loved one has experienced unexplained seizures, fainting episodes, or unusual neurological symptoms, speaking with your GP is an important first step.

💜 Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to better support.

Your kidneys quietly filter around 180 litres of blood every day, removing waste and keeping your body’s fluid balance in check.

But kidney disease often develops without obvious symptoms.

This World Kidney Day, GPs on Curzon is encouraging our Toowoomba community to stay proactive with their health.

You may be at higher risk if you have:
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Heart disease
• A family history of kidney problems
• Long-term medication use

Simple tests like blood pressure checks, blood tests and urine tests can help detect early changes before symptoms appear.

Early detection can make a huge difference.

📅 If it’s been a while since your last health check, now is a good time to book one! Book an appointment with us online at our website.

There’s no early screening test for ovarian cancer, which means that a strong GP connection is often the first and best defence.

GPs on Curzon is standing with women across Toowoomba and beyond, raising awareness and reminding our patients that genuine, long-term GP care can save lives.

Our female GPs offer safe, face-to-face consultations across every stage of womanhood, from menstrual issues to menopause, and yes, through the often-overlooked risks like ovarian cancer.

🩺 We offer:

• Women’s health checks
• Cervical screening and pelvic health support
• Counselling for early symptoms (like bloating, abdominal discomfort, changes in bathroom habits)
• Long-acting contraceptive care (IUDs, Implanon)
• Proactive conversations about hormonal health, fertility, and cancer risk * Perimenopause and Menopausal support and tailored therapy to suit every woman's individual needs.

💬 Don’t ignore the signs. And don’t wait to make a connection that could make all the difference.

We’re reminding our Toowoomba community that heart disease is still the leading cause of death in Australia, for both men and women.

At GPs on Curzon, we offer comprehensive Heart Health Checks designed to:
🩺 Identify your personal risk of heart attack or stroke
📊 Assess blood pressure, cholesterol, lifestyle and family history
🧠 Empower you with a personalised plan to reduce risk

✔ If you’re aged 45 or over (or 30+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients), you’re eligible for this Heart Health check up with some Medicare rebate available.

❤️ Give your heart a little love, your future self will thank you.

PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: A measles alert has been issued for people who visited the following locations at the following times.

These locations pose no ongoing risk, but people who were at these locations at these times should be on the lookout for measles symptoms.

Measles can be a serious illness and is highly infectious.

The potential exposure areas include Toowoomba and the Brisbane Airport, with specific locations and times below:

📍Brisbane Airport (International arrival terminal)
👉 Thursday 15 January – 7.20pm – 9.00pm

📍Toowoomba Medical and Dental Centre (including Urgent Care Clinic), 261-269 James Street
👉Tuesday 20 January – 7.30am – 9.35am

Measles usually starts as a flu-like illness with symptoms that include:
🤒fever
😴tiredness
🥵blotchy rash that spreads from head/face to rest of body
🤧severe cough
👀red/sore eyes
👃🏼runny nose
👄white spots in the mouth

Although the most well-known symptom of measles is a blotchy red rash, this is not usually the first symptom. Measles symptoms may appear 7–18 days after exposure, typically around day 10.

If you were at the above locations at the listed dates and times, please look out for symptoms.

If you develop symptoms, phone your doctor to arrange testing or call 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for advice. Avoid public spaces to prevent further transmission.

Vaccination is the most effective protection against measles. The MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine is free and available through GPs and participating community pharmacies.
