Yesterday, our participants and members of our team had the valuable opportunity to meet the Minister of Disability, Hannah Beazley, and voice their lived experiences, as well as hear about programs and solutions that are being actively worked on for people living with disability.

One of our participants, Emma, raised a point about the lack of inclusion and the bullying that people with a disability endure in school.

Being able to give our participants this opportunity to share their experiences and be heard comes back to our company focus for collaboration and inclusivity in everything we do. In addition to this, our company initiatives like our Neurodiversi-TEA networking events, and upcoming projects (such as Everyday Access) are creating more opportunities for individuals' living with disability to tell their stories.

During the minister's visit, our team also raised our concerns for how pricing changes have affected supports in regional areas (such as Geraldton), and learned about some programs already underway which will address these issues.

We are grateful to Minister Beazley for her time and insights, and happy that were able to include our participants in this experience.

National Pain Week aims to facilitate connection, community, and peer support among those navigating the life-long challenges of chronic pain.

From those who experience good and bad days, to those who can’t remember not being in pain, this week is about listening to those who share their lived experiences, and encouraging awareness in our community.

❤️💛🖤 Celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week ❤️💛🖤

This week, we embrace a bright future as we celebrate 50 strong, unwavering years of NAIDOC Week, and commemorate a milestone that encourages the next generation to continue leading strong.

What started 50 years ago as a movement for recognition and rights has continued to grow, evolve and inspire the nation. By recognising First Nation voices, sharing culture, and building legacy, we continue the walk forward with unity, respect and equality.

Today is MND Awareness Day; held annually to raise awareness about Motor Neurone Disease and its impact on affected individuals.

MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease that can strike anyone. There is no known cure or effective treatment.

In Australia, two people are diagnosed with MND every day, and two people lose their battle with the disease.

Those with MND progressively lose the use of their limbs and the ability to speak, swallow, and breathe, while their mind and senses generally remain unaffected.

Wearing blue today signifies support for the MND community as we continue to search for the cause, treatment and cure of MND.

(Pictured: a throwback to last year when we participated in Walk to Defeat MND Perth 2024 in honour of those we care for living with MND and those we have lost. 💙)

Afraid to lose your independence? 👨🏻‍🦯

Despite having access to NDIS funding since Grade 12, Brent Matthews opted not to use it for the first four years of his Stargardt's Disease diagnosis, as he didn’t want to lose his independence.

It wasn’t until his second close call with a Brisbane city bus that he finally decided he might benefit from support (joking that he didn’t want a full body cast to accompany his vision loss).

“The best part of getting support, for me, was discovering what I couldn’t do because I was glad to be able to do so in a safe environment. I would much rather learn these things in a place where I have control of the situation, than be thrown in the deep end.

For me, independence is about control—getting to choose if, how and when something is done. I realised that I still had my independence because it came from choosing to have support in the first place.”

What does independence mean to you? Read more of Brent’s story on our blog (link in bio).
