Wednesday night was all about travelling with diabetes and it was such a great evening both in the room and online.

We heard from Lauren, our Health Promotion and Advocacy Lead, who shared an advocacy update along with plenty of practical tips and tricks for navigating travel with diabetes. PDC co director and CDE Pharmacist Teresa then spoke about planning for travel, managing diabetes while away and what to think about once you’re home again.

We also heard from Sarah from Perth Airport who gave us a behind the scenes look at airport security and accessibility and how the airport supports travellers with disability and medical needs.

The panel brought together Lauren, Tayla and Jake, a pilot living with type 1 diabetes, who shared real life experiences and practical advice that made travelling feel more achievable and less overwhelming.

There was great food, useful resources and lots of friendly faces. We loved being able to open the event up online too and were so impressed by how engaged our livestream audience was.

Extra points if you spotted the ‘just in case’ juice box on the lectern 👀

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the night such a success ✈️💺

Last night’s Travelling with Diabetes event in collaboration with was out of this world✈️

If you couldn’t make it, here are our top 5 tips to help you feel more confident navigating travel with diabetes:

🌻 The Sunflower Lanyard
You can order a lanyard through the Perth Airport website. It’s a simple way to signal that you may need a little extra time or support, and it’s completely free!

💺 Prepare for airport security
Keep your tech easily accessible, carry a detailed travel letter outlining your devices, medication and requirements, and don’t hesitate to use the assistance lane. It’s there for a reason, and your travel companions can come through with you too 👀

💼 Always pack supplies in your carry-on
Lost luggage happens. Keep everything you need with you, and if you’re travelling with others, spread supplies across multiple bags for extra peace of mind.

✍🏻 Research your destination
Look into airport regulations, translate your travel letter if needed, and save emergency contacts and locations before you arrive.

✨Stay calm
Airport staff are there to help. Taking a moment to breathe and clearly explain your needs can make all the difference.

If you’re living with diabetes and planning a trip soon, our diabetes educators are here to support you so you can feel prepared and actually enjoy your travels.

Thank you to our sponsors, and to everyone who joined us last night, both in person and online ❤️

Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day and for good reason. It sets you up with energy for the morning. A balanced breakfast has a mix of carbs, protein, and fibre (plus a few antioxidants never hurt).

In this carousel PDC Dietitian / CDE Caitlin is breaking down a simple breakfast. The muesli gives you carbs for energy, the milk adds protein to keep you fuller for longer, and the frozen blueberries bring fibre, antioxidants, and a bit of sweetness.

Once upon a time, diabetes management felt prehistoric…

These days, diabetes care looks different.
It’s about understanding your numbers, using technology in a way that works for you, having support around you and still living your life, dessert and all.

Diabetes management has come a long way, and so has the way we support people living with it.

That’s what we mean when we say we’re challenging the status quo in diabetes care 🫳🏻🎤
