Doctors kill. Better, the humanity of Doctors kills, as do the "natural" alternatives, so how to decide what to do about sickness and to be healthy?
I think science is still a better answer than folk medicines from centuries ago or from cultures where the rituals of knowing give credence to subjectivity and anecdotes over statistical testing.
The scientific method has developed through long traditions through thousands of years of history.
Animal bodies (including humans) are among the most complex systems we know of. Science, as we do it, is great for simple material systems.
Science acknowledges that logic is limited. Like it seems logical that an immunity response strengthened by a low dose of a defeated toxin that leads to an effective vacine might lead to being strengthening from low dose of any poison. It doesn't because some poisons build up in our system. Logic is based of assumptions that can be the wrong place to start.
Thus we test every idea with nature, because nature is non-linear and chaotic though ordered. And nature doesn't care what you believe or logic.
The mind body system has all kinds of influences from society, psychology and relationships, plus, of course, physical realities that influence our health, fitness and dis-ease.
A rational health system would start with placebo (which includes hypnosis remembering thatvits not reliable because the complexityof the mind body relationship is not well understood yet), then drugs, and finally surgeon; except in the case of accidents, like breaking anything and being shots.
BTW latest research shows placebo still works even when done honestly. All drugs on the mainstream market are tested against placebo, as they should be.
Tradition tribal medicines magnified the real potency of herbs and fungi with the placebo of ritual, thus addressing mind and body together.
