Hi Steven,
Good News, Stephanie our Massage/Myotherapist is back and during the Month of MAY is offering 50% off her appointments, hurry call and book now on 9680 9940 they have been booking up quickly.
With the isolation still in effect, it has been a great time for many to pick up a new form of exercise, or hobby. If you’ve found yourself putting on a new pair of runners and hitting the streets but all of a sudden you’re experiencing knee pain, you’re not alone!
KNEE PAIN WHILE RUNNING? Patellofemoral pain syndrome? Runners knee…
Patellofemoral knee pain (space between the kneecap and your thigh bone) is considered one of the most common knee complaints among both the active sportsperson and the elderly.
Patellofemoral knee pain is mainly due to excessive patellofemoral joint pressure from poor kneecap alignment, which overtime can affect the cartilage.
Your kneecap normally glides up and down along a groove, however pressure is built up if it mistracks, meaning it travels more to one side.
The most common cause of this malalignment is an abnormal muscle imbalance and poor biomechanical control. Poor foot posture (e.g. flat feet) and weak hip control muscles can both allow your knee to abnormally twist and result in a lateral deviation of your knee. When poor biomechanics are repeated with each step of your running pattern that poor habit traumatises your patellofemoral pain.
As an Osteopath, the aim of the treatment is to get the pain and inflammation under control, and then implement exercises to correct this.
