🌈 RAINBOW BREASTSCREEN: YOUR SPACE, YOUR HEALTH | SATURDAY 14 MARCH 2026 🌈

A mammogram can detect breast cancers too small to see or feel, sometimes as tiny as a grain of rice, long before any changes appear. Early detection saves lives.

NSLHD and BreastScreen NSW are proud to offer a safe, welcoming and supportive mammogram clinic for LGBTIQ+ people with breast or chest tissue. The Rainbow Clinic provides free, high-quality imaging with no referral required, delivered by staff trained in gender-affirming practice.

Regular mammograms are recommended for LGBTIQ+ people aged 40 and over, including le****ns and bi women, intersex people, trans women who have used feminising gender-affirming hormones for five or more years, trans men who have not had gender-affirming chest surgery, and non-binary and gender non-conforming people, Sistergirls and Brotherboys who have used feminising hormones for five or more years or have not had gender-affirming chest surgery.

We’ll ask your name and pronouns and make sure your privacy is respected. You’re welcome to bring a support person if that helps you feel more comfortable.

🏗️ CRANES NAMED AT RYDE HOSPITAL 🏗️

Two cranes supporting the Ryde Hospital redevelopment have officially received their names, chosen by the local community through a name the crane competition.

Around 250 children aged between two and twelve took part, bringing creativity and thoughtful ideas to the process.

Ten finalists were invited to Ryde Hospital for a special naming ceremony and site tour as part of the celebrations.

The winning names were ICU Up There by Layla Bahry and Blue Gum Giant by Sloane Hanrahan, both recognised for their imagination, wordplay and connection to the local area.

Each crane will now fly its name on a flag for the duration of construction, creating a visible reminder of the community’s involvement in the project.

Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD), in partnership with BreastScreen NSW , is hosting a Rainbow Breast Screening Clinic this Saturday, 6 December 2025 at North Ryde.

This inclusive clinic offers a safe, welcoming space for LGBTIQ+ people and anyone who prefers a supportive environment for breast screening. Staff are trained in gender-affirming care, ensuring the same high-quality imaging and clinical standards as all BreastScreen NSW services.

Michael Sanderson, NSLHD LGBTIQ+ Project Manager, outlined how important improving access to vital health services is.

“I am really excited about this project, and we have more plans to improve access to vital health services. Follow NSLHD on social media for updates on upcoming initiatives,” he said.

Breast screening is vital for anyone with breast tissue. Early detection can find cancers as small as a grain of rice, improving treatment outcomes and survival rates.

Appointments are open to all – don’t miss this opportunity for accessible, affirming care.

• Call 0427 414 931 or
• Email NSLHD-BreastScreenRainbow@health.nsw.gov.au to book.

Follow Northern Sydney Local Health District for updates on future clinics and initiatives.
