Bowen Therapy and Reflexology with Dayna

Bowen Therapy and Reflexology with Dayna A Therapist offering Bowen therapy, Reflexology, Scar Tissue work and Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage from a whisper quiet location in Greenwood WA 6024

Bowen Therapy and Reflexology can assist with many health issues. Bowen Therapy can assist in resolving pelvic misalignment, neck/back pain, sciatica, migraines/headaches, stress/anxiety, lethargy, osgood schlatters (growing pains) in children, reflux/sleep issues in babies, fibromyalgia, etc. Bowen Therapy is a form of body work in which the practitioner places cross fibre moves on fascia (connec

tive tissue), impacting on all the structures surrounding this fascia. Dayna is able to apply varying degrees of pressure during these moves, which caters for all levels of pain thresholds clients may have. The client remains fully clothed during the session. Please ensure you attend your session well hydrated, as Bowen Therapy moves are rehydrating fascia. Hydration plays a huge role in the whole Bowen Therapy process. Reflexology is a form of therapy primarily executed on the feet. There is also hand, face and ear reflexology, however Dayna works on the feet as the feet represent 'moving forward in life'. For this reason, Reflexology can be helpful not only for physical issues, but also emotional issues where there is a 'blockage' which is hampering the persons ability to move forward and stop procrastinating!. Reflexology can also assist in resolving headaches/migraines, neck/back pain, stress, anxiety, depression, emotional distress/crisis, etc. The aim of a Reflexologist is to bring the body back to balance, by 'working' on all the reflexes on the feet that represent the whole body. The belief is, that if the body is in balance, it has the ability to be at 'ease' rather than at 'dis-ease'. If the body is at 'ease', it has the ability to function normally, without energy blockages affecting balance. In your first consultation, Dayna provides personalised service involving a comprehensive discussion on health issues and how to obtain the best results from your Bowen Therapy or Reflexology session. Due to the time spent in the first consult on this, Dayna only has sufficient time to provide either Bowen Therapy or Reflexology. However, Dayna is happy to combine the two therapies in any furture session at no extra charge. Please note that you are welcome to have either one of the therapies on their own, should both not interest you. Cost:

Adult - Initial consult/1 hour Repeat session - $80
- 30 minute Bowen Session only - $60

Child - Initial consult - $55 (allow an hour, however generally 30-45 minutes)
- 30 minute repeat - $45

Private Health fund rebates are available with most funds, you will need to check the level of cover your fund requires you to have to be eligible to claim. (Please note, most health funds will recognise me for Reflexology - to claim under this therapy, some Reflexology will need to be incorporated into the session).

When the Nervous System Is Dysregulated, Menopause Symptoms Can Feel So Much Worse

In today’s world, women are carrying more than ever before.

Many of us are juggling multiple roles every single day — mother, partner, employee, business owner, caregiver, house manager… the list goes on. Add to that financial pressures, emotional stress, busy schedules, and the constant feeling of needing to be “on”, and it’s no wonder our nervous systems are under strain.

As humans, we were never designed to juggle this many balls at once.

When the nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight mode, it becomes dysregulated. And when this happens, many symptoms — especially during perimenopause and menopause — can become much more intense.

Some signs your nervous system may be dysregulated include:
• Feeling like you can’t sit still
• Always needing to be doing something
• Struggling to switch your mind off at night
• Difficulty sleeping
• Brain fog or forgetfulness
• Feeling constantly “wired but tired”

Over time, living in this state can contribute to:
• Elevated cortisol levels
• Faster ageing
• Weight gain (especially around the midsection)
• Digestive issues
• Adrenal exhaustion
• Chronic fatigue
• Increased inflammation

As we move closer to perimenopause and menopause, these underlying imbalances often become more noticeable.

Trust me — I’m speaking from experience.

I’m currently at that beautiful stage of life where I’m transitioning into what I like to call the “age of wisdom” (otherwise known as menopause 🤪). And I feel incredibly grateful that for the past 25 years I’ve worked on my health from a root cause perspective.

Has it been perfect? Absolutely not.

There have been times of stress, emotional challenges, poor diet, and life’s curveballs. But what I’ve noticed is that whenever my nervous system becomes dysregulated, my perimenopause symptoms become more pronounced.

For example, if I have something high in sugar, I can literally feel the beginning of a hot flush.

From a conventional perspective, many of these symptoms are simply labelled as “normal”, and medication is often prescribed to help manage them. But from my personal experience, I truly believe that the cleaner our lifestyle and the more regulated our nervous system is, the less intense these symptoms can be.

I’ve experienced this first-hand.

One way I help support women during this stage of life is by working with the body from a nervous system and hormonal balance perspective.

Using a Traditional Chinese Medicine–inspired approach, combined with Bowen therapy techniques, the goal is to help calm and reset the nervous system. Many clients report feeling days of calm, clarity, and a more relaxed nervous system response after sessions.

While daily habits like movement, breathing, good nutrition, and boundaries are essential, sometimes the body simply needs a little nudge to remember what regulation feels like again.

Menopause should be a time of wisdom, empowerment, and stepping into a new phase of life — not a time where we feel overwhelmed by symptoms.

If your body is asking for support during this transition, perhaps it’s time to give it the helping hand it deserves.

Let me help you navigate this stage of life with more ease

I mentioned in my previous post that I’d share a real example—because sometimes it’s the simplest things that create the biggest shifts.

I had a very young client come in with ongoing neck pain. She was improving, but the pain kept returning. It didn’t sit right with me, so I dug deeper. We had already covered all the usual recommendations in her initial consultation—and she was following them.

Something was being missed.

So I asked a simple question: “You’re not using heat packs, are you?”

She said yes—quite often.

That was the missing piece.

I asked her to stop using heat and instead switch to options that support healing without aggravating the tissue, like magnesium or a topical Colloidal gold gel. She was open to trying anything.

The result? Her pain resolved.

What was happening was this: the Bowen work was helping to hydrate the fascia and reduce restriction. But the repeated use of heat was essentially undoing that progress, creating a cycle of relief followed by regression.

Once that cycle was broken, her body could finally hold the change.

It sounds simple—and in many ways, it is. But this is why looking at the whole picture matters. Sometimes it’s not about doing more… it’s about removing the one thing that’s getting in the way.

There’s a really interesting pattern I’ve been noticing in clinic lately… and it highlights just how the smallest, simplest habits can either support healing—or quietly keep pain stuck.

Most people I see have already been through the usual cycle trying to fix their pain. Massage, physio, chiro, medications… the list goes on. And often, the advice given is about managing symptoms rather than truly resolving them.

One of the most common things I hear?
“I’ve been using a heat pack.”

And I get it. When you’re in pain, you’ll try anything. Heat feels comforting. It can give temporary relief. It seems harmless.

But what if it’s actually contributing to the problem?

After 20+ years working with the body through Bowen Therapy, I’ve consistently seen that frequent heat application can dehydrate the fascia.

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds everything—muscles, nerves, organs, ligaments. It’s one continuous web throughout the entire body.

When it becomes dehydrated, it tightens. It restricts. It creates that “vice-like” feeling around structures, limiting movement and often driving pain.

And here’s the key—because it’s all connected, what you do to one area doesn’t stay isolated.

Apply heat to your upper back, and you may influence a chain that runs through your lower back, calves, even into your feet.

Think of it like this:
If you grab the fabric of your shirt under your arm and try to lift your arm overhead… your movement is restricted. That’s what dehydrated fascia can do inside your body.

This is exactly why I don’t “spot treat.”

With Bowen Therapy, I address the body as a whole—restoring balance, reducing tension patterns, and allowing the nervous system to reset.

Sometimes, it’s not about doing more.
It’s about changing the one thing you thought was helping.

I’ll be sharing a real client example of this in my next post—keep an eye out.

Your nervous system sets the tone for your entire body.

When it is regulated, you operate from parasympathetic dominance — rest, repair, digestion, hormone regulation, immune balance.

When it is dysregulated, you live in sympathetic overdrive — fight or flight.

Chronic nervous system activation doesn’t just feel like stress. It has physiological consequences:

• Elevated cortisol
• Blood sugar instability
• Hormonal disruption
• Thyroid suppression
• Increased inflammatory load
• Immune dysregulation (often contributing to autoimmune patterns)
• Chronic muscle tension
• Joint compression and postural changes
• Persistent pain

When the body stays in survival mode, it prioritises protection over healing.

Digestion slows. Repair mechanisms reduce. Detoxification pathways become inefficient. Muscles guard. Fascia tightens. Alignment shifts. Over time, this sustained state creates dysfunction across multiple systems — endocrine, immune, musculoskeletal.

You cannot heal fully while your nervous system believes you are under threat.

This is where Bowen Therapy is different.

Bowen is gentle, precise and neurologically driven. The specific cross-fibre moves stimulate mechanoreceptors within fascia, sending signals through the autonomic nervous system.

The result?

• Down-regulation of sympathetic drive
• Activation of parasympathetic response
• Improved circulation and lymphatic flow
• Reduced muscular guarding
• Restored structural balance

When the nervous system shifts out of fight or flight, the body can finally do what it is designed to do — self-correct and heal.

Regulate the nervous system, and you change the foundation of health.

Stress is often spoken about as an emotional experience, but its effects are very physical.

When the body perceives stress, the nervous system shifts into a survival response — commonly known as fight or flight. This response is incredibly useful in short bursts. It helps us react quickly to danger. The problem is that in modern life, many people are living in this state almost constantly.

Deadlines, financial pressures, family responsibilities, lack of sleep, emotional strain… the body doesn’t distinguish between a real physical threat and daily life pressures. It simply responds.

When stress becomes chronic, the body begins to adapt in ways that can create dysfunction:

• Muscles tighten and remain in a state of tension
• Breathing becomes shallow
• Digestion slows or becomes disrupted
• Hormones become imbalanced
• Sleep becomes difficult
• The immune system becomes compromised

Over time this can show up as headaches, neck and back pain, fatigue, anxiety, digestive issues, hormonal disruption and persistent tension throughout the body.

The body is always communicating. Pain, tightness and fatigue are often signals that the nervous system has been under load for too long.

Therapies that calm and regulate the nervous system allow the body to move out of that constant stress response. When this happens, muscles can release, circulation improves, digestion normalises and the body can begin to repair and rebalance.

The body has an incredible capacity to heal when the nervous system feels safe enough to switch out of survival mode.
