Heads up! Our cancellation policy is updating this Friday.

We always try to balance the needs of our clients with the requirements of our business, and this is a necessary adjustment to how we manage our scheduling.

We don't want to charge cancellation fees, and we know you don't want to incur them. To help everyone avoid them, we’ve created a simple, easy-to-read chart on our website that breaks down exactly when you need to cancel your appointment by.

Our new cancellation policy is:

✨Less than 24 business hours = 100% of Fee
✨Between 24 and 48 business hours = 50% of fee
✨More than 48 business hours notice = no fee

Please head to our website to review the chart and the updated policy details. We appreciate your cooperation!

We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our Toowong team, Ella Gilmour!

Ella is a warm, person-centred psychologist who is passionate about supporting and empowering individuals across all stages of life. She takes a relaxed, collaborative, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach, valuing the input of clients as the experts in their own experiences and striving to meet people where they are at with curiosity, respect, and genuineness. Her hope is that clients leave sessions feeling valued, understood, and equipped with the insight and practical skills to navigate life in ways that feel meaningful to them.

Ella draws from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Schema-informed Therapy to tailor support to each individual’s needs and goals.

Ella particularly enjoys working with autistic, ADHD, and other neurodivergent adolescents and adults, and aims to provide a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can show up as their authentic selves. Other areas of treatment include:

• Anxiety/phobias
• Depression
• Stress management
• Self-Esteem and confidence
• Perfectionism
• Emotional regulation and coping skills
• Social skills building

According to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 1.1% of the Australian population is autistic. While 1 in 100 might look like a small figure on a chart, it represents hundreds of thousands of people contributing to our workforce, our schools, and our communities.

As we recognise World Autism Month this April, My Psych Clinic is proud to celebrate our neurodiverse clients. We believe that a diverse community is a stronger one, and we are committed to fostering an environment where neurodivergent individuals can thrive.

If you are looking to better support autistic people in your workplace or personal life, here are some resources to explore:

💜 Focuses on the often-overlooked experiences of autistic girls and women.
💜 Specialists in neuro-affirming practices.
💜 Excellent for policy, research, and community support.

Let’s use this month to listen to autistic voices and build a more inclusive Australia.

It can feel awkward to speak up, but we want you to know that switching practitioners can be a normal part of the mental health journey.

Some of the most common reasons we see at My Psych Clinic are:

✔️ Wanting to explore a different therapy modality.

✔️ Needing a more convenient appointment day, time or location.

✔️ You and/or your psychologist feel another practitioner is better suited to your current goals and needs.

✔️ Simply not feeling a connection or "click."

Our goal is your outcome, please know, it is never personal. If you have had a few sessions, and aren't feeling the fit, your therapist will work with you to help you transition to someone who might be a better match.

Jennifer has a particular interest in couples therapy, and is a certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist. Jennifer has a warm and good-humoured approach to the challenges of being human, and works in a collaborative and caring way to find the solutions that will work for you. Jennifer’s treatment approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and she will work with you to create a tailored approach specific to your needs and preferences.

We commonly get asked whether clients can use their MHCP or other referral to get a rebate on Cognitive Assessments. The answer is typically no, however, there are a few exceptions, including:

👉An individual with a Complex Neurodevelopmental Condition who is under 25 years of age can be referred by an approved medical practitioner (such as a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist) for allied health assessments. This help diagnose conditions like Autism, allowing you to receive a Medicare rebate that covers some of the cost.

👉 Clients with existing NDIS packages can sometimes be eligible to use their plan for a cognitive assessment if it aligns with their goals.

For the majority of our clients who pay for assessments privately, we offer flexible payment plans to help split the cost over a few weeks.

Reach out to our admin team if you have any questions about whether you may be eligible for a rebate - 07 3349 5511
