If lifting weights feels like something you should be able to do…
but your body keeps pushing back — this is your missing piece.

Midlife bodies don’t need more force.
They need better preparation.

A few minutes of gentle somatic movement before strength work can help you:
• release built-up tension
• reconnect to alignment
• move with more ease and confidence
• and get far more out of your training

This is exactly how I prepare my own body — and it’s what I teach inside my Online Studio too.

✨ You can try it for yourself with a 2-week free trial — link’s in my bio.

Move freely, live fully with Manipura Body.

One hand on your belly. One on your chest.
Close your eyes. Slow your breath. Soften your shoulders.
Just for a moment — let everything drop.

This is the heart of my Online Studio.
Slowing things down.
Calming the nervous system.
Gentle, mindful movement and simple relaxation practices that help your body feel safe, settled and supported again.

Tiny moments like this really do add up.

Living with Ankylosing Spondylitis means my body sometimes needs extra care — especially during a flare.
This past week, things felt tighter, heavier, and more inflamed than usual, so I slowed down and focused on the simple things that help me rebalance and feel more comfortable again.

Here’s what supported me:

1. Rest
I gave myself permission to take a full day off — no guilt. When my system is irritated, stopping early always helps more than pushing through.

2. Magnesium bath
A long soak softened the tension I was holding through my back, neck and legs, and helped everything settle.

3. Hydrate
Magnesium electrolytes made a noticeable difference in my energy and helped reduce that full-body tightness that comes with a flare.

4. Evening Somatics
Prioritising 15 minutes before bed helped calm my nervous system and improved how my body felt the next morning- reducing stiffness and pain.

5. Gentle movement only
I chose somatics and slow & soft yoga instead of higher intensity, higher cardio training….& trust that I’ll get back to my normal routine once the flare settles.

6. Whole foods
I kept meals simple and reduced sugar to support settling inflammation. Nothing extreme — just nourishing, light choices.

7. Massage support
A gentle, pain-free treatment helped my body soften even further.

If you’re navigating stiffness, tension, or a flare of your own, you’re not alone.
There are simple, supportive things you can do to help your body settle and feel more comfortable.

Inside the Manipura Body Online Studio, I guide you through gentle somatic practices that help soften tension, ease the nervous system, and support your everyday mobility — at home, in your own time.

If you’ve found yourself at the computer for hours this week — and now your neck and shoulders feel tight, lifted, and locked in that “shoulders up near your ears” posture — this week’s fresh new class uploads are for you.

This week’s new classes in the Online Studio focus on unwinding computer tension: softening the muscles that round the shoulders, releasing the neck, and helping your upper body settle back into a more relaxed, natural position.

You’re welcome to join me inside the Studio with a 2-week free trial and experience for yourself how simple yet incredible Somatic Movement really is.

Living with Ankylosing Spondylitis has taught me to listen closely to my body. Over time I’ve started to notice clear patterns in what makes things tighten and flare — and what helps me feel more comfortable and mobile day to day.

For years I pushed through workouts that were simply too demanding for my system. I’d try to do what I thought I “should” be doing, and everything would tighten afterwards.

Once I began paying attention, I realised my body responds best to gentle, consistent, nervous-system-friendly movement — not intensity. It’s why my daily rhythm matters more than any single workout. And why releasing tension before bed makes such a difference to how I feel the next morning.

If you’re living with AS (or any pattern of stiffness, bracing, or inflammation), sometimes it’s not about doing more — it’s about choosing movement your body can actually soften into.

Here’s the weekly rhythm that supports me:

1) Gentle strength — 20 minutes, 1–2x per week
Light, supportive movements to keep my body healthy without pushing into fatigue.

2) Walking — 1–2x per week
A comfortable pace and a feel hills that keeps everything moving and improve cardiovasular fitness

3) Swimming — 30 minutes, 1x per week
Rhythmic, low-impact movement that keeps my spine and ribs mobile.

4) Longer somatic session + gentle yoga — 1x per week
A full reset to unwind tension and help my body feel more balanced.

5) Somatic movement before bed — most nights
Just 15 minutes to soften tension and help me wake up feeling more at ease and less stiffness

It’s simple, repeatable and flexible — and it’s what helps me move more comfortably in everyday life.

If you’re curious about exploring gentle somatic movement or building your own routine, just send me a message — I’m always happy to share what’s working for me!
