The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the concept of “reasonable and necessary” is central to determining whether a support or service is eligible for funding under the scheme. So important all reports reflect this to ensure you get sufficient funding.

The NDIS Act 2013 outlines that supports funded by the scheme must be:

Reasonable:
A support is considered reasonable if it is appropriate for the participant’s needs and goals.
It should be a proportional response to the individual’s disability-related needs.

Necessary:
A support is necessary if it is required for the person to participate in activities of daily life and to work toward their personal goals. This includes activities like education, employment, social participation, or independent living. The support should directly relate to the person’s disability and the impact the disability has on their life.

The NDIS will also assess:

Relation to Disability: The support must directly relate to the person’s disability. It should be something that helps them manage, improve, or address the functional impact of their disability.

Value for Money: The support must represent a reasonable cost in relation to the benefits it provides.

Service Descriptions
* Claim type
