“Just think positive and you’ll rewire your brain.” I guess by now you see that’s NOT working!

This idea gets tossed around like gospel in the self-help world — but it’s missing key ingredients.

🧠 Neuroplasticity requires more than just positive thinking.
Your brain needs context, safety, emotional engagement, repetition, and integration to truly change.

Research from experts like Dr. Norman Doidge shows that for thoughts to actually rewire the brain, they must:

👉 Be repeated with emotional charge
👉 Be paired with real-world behavioral action
👉 Be perceived as safe by the nervous system
👉 Be experienced in meaningful, embodied contexts

Otherwise, the brain dismisses them as unsafe and won’t hold change..and will go back to old patterns that might be helpful in avoiding or holding off issues but damaging in other ways. Eg. co***ne used to cope escape from trauma, stress or anxiety - calms the system temporarily but drug addiction causes issues to relationships , careers, finances etc. true change is possible.

If affirmations or mindset work have ever felt like they just didn’t “stick,” it’s not your fault — you were missing the right neural mapping process.

That’s where NeuroReset comes in:
We combine cognitive reframes with somatic cues, nervous system regulation, and prefrontal activation so your brain can trust and retain new patterns.

💬 Ever felt stuck in toxic positivity or frustrated that mindset work wasn’t enough?
You’re not alone — share your story in the comments.
We learn best through shared experience.

If you feel like an imposter, even when you’re thriving — you’re not broken.

You’re likely carrying the memory of times when being seen didn’t feel safe.

From a Polyvagal lens, imposter syndrome isn’t just a mindset — it’s a nervous system response.
Your body may still be protecting you from old experiences where success, attention, or visibility brought criticism, pressure, or abandonment.

From an IFS perspective, this feeling may come from a younger part of you that still fears what might happen if you truly show up — because in the past, that visibility cost too much.

✨ That part might say:
• “Who do you think you are?”
• “Stay small — it’s safer here.”
• “If they really see you, they’ll reject you.”

So even when you’re successful on the outside, another part of you may be bracing for impact on the inside.

You’re not ungrateful.
You’re not faking it.
You’re protecting yourself in the way your system once needed to.

But with support, those protective parts can learn they’re not alone anymore.
Your nervous system can feel safe enough to expand.
And the younger parts of you can finally begin to trust that it’s okay to take up space.

At Holistic Wellness Australia, I offer trauma-informed support that gently works with your body and inner system — helping you build real safety, not just confidence.

🌿 If you’re ready to move from surviving success to actually feeling it — I’m here.

We’ve been taught to treat addiction like a brain disease to be managed— when in many cases, it’s a multi-dimensional wound that needs to be healed.

And when trauma is part of the story, healing isn’t just about abstaining.
It’s about integrating.

Because relapse isn’t failure.
It’s often the body’s last-ditch effort to soothe pain it doesn’t know how to hold.

Addiction isn’t always about the substance.
And it’s never just about willpower.
It’s what happens when the nervous system gets overwhelmed-and reaches for the only thing that’s ever offered relief.

For some, addiction begins with genetics or reward-seeking.

For others, it starts with emotional pain that had nowhere to go.

But for many, it’s both: a brain wired for craving, and a body carrying pain.

🧬 Yes, neuroscience tells us addiction reshapes the brain—dulling the prefrontal cortex, over-activating the amygdala, and conditioning the system to seek short-term relief at all costs.

But that same science also tells us: the brain can change.

Especially in environments of safety, connection, and internal integration.

It means we don’t stop at behavior.
We go deeper into the brain, the body, and the story.

We work across disciplines such as:
🧠 Neuroscience to understand reward circuitry
🛋️ Psychotherapy to explore emotional wounds and relational patterns
🎯 Coaching to build capacity, momentum, and motivation
🔄 IFS to understand internal coping strategies
✨ EMDR to process trauma memories
🌀 Somatic therapy to release what the body still holds

Because most addiction treatment still focuses on managing the behavior or medicating the brain. But it rarely teaches people how to feel.

How to grieve.

How to come back into relationship with themselves.

And without that, relapse isn’t just possible—it’s predictable.

Integration isn’t a luxury. It’s the missing piece.
Because when trauma shapes addiction, only healing can truly resolve (or release) it.

🌿 Understanding Executive Functioning: The Brain’s “Air Traffic Control” System 🌿

Have you ever felt like your brain just can’t get organized? You forget appointments, get distracted easily, struggle to plan ahead, or feel overwhelmed by tasks that “should” be simple? These challenges may be linked to executive functioning.

What are Executive Functions?
Executive functions are a set of 8 key mental skills that help us manage life. They act like the brain’s “air traffic control,” allowing us to plan, focus, remember, and regulate our emotions and behaviors.

Here are the 8 core executive functions and where they might show up in everyday life:
1. Impulse Control – Helps you think before acting.
🔸 Difficulties: Interrupting others, blurting things out, or acting without thinking.
🌀 Affected in: ADHD, PTSD, traumatic brain injury.
2. Emotional Control – Regulates emotional responses.
🔸 Difficulties: Intense reactions, mood swings, or trouble calming down.
🌀 Affected in: PTSD, BPD, developmental trauma, anxiety.
3. Flexible Thinking – Helps you adjust to new situations or perspectives.
🔸 Difficulties: Getting stuck on thoughts, resisting change, rigid routines.
🌀 Affected in: Autism, OCD, trauma responses.
4. Working Memory – Holds and manipulates information short-term.
🔸 Difficulties: Forgetting instructions, losing your train of thought.
🌀 Affected in: ADHD, trauma, anxiety, depression.
5. Self-Monitoring – Helps you notice how you’re doing and adjust.
🔸 Difficulties: Being unaware of mistakes, struggling with feedback.
🌀 Affected in: ADHD, trauma, learning disabilities.
6. Planning and Prioritizing – Organizes tasks and time effectively.
🔸 Difficulties: Trouble making a plan, feeling overwhelmed, procrastinating.
🌀 Affected in: ADHD, depression, CPTSD.
7. Task Initiation – Helps you get started on tasks.
🔸 Difficulties: Avoiding, putting things off, not knowing how to begin.
🌀 Affected in: Depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD.
8. Organization – Keeps materials, thoughts, and tasks in order.
🔸 Difficulties: Losing items, messy spaces, scattered thinking.
🌀 Affected in: ADHD, trauma, executive dysfunction.

✨ How Trauma and Mental Health Affect These Functions
When we’ve experienced trauma—especially early, chronic, or complex trauma—our nervous system prioritizes survival over planning or memory. The brain’s prefrontal cortex, responsible for executive function, goes offline in stress. Over time, this can create lasting patterns of overwhelm, forgetfulness, or shutdown that aren’t due to laziness or a lack of motivation.

Many people with ADHD, PTSD, autism, or anxiety struggle silently with executive functioning and blame themselves.

💚 You’re not broken. Your brain is doing its best to keep you safe. With compassionate, trauma-informed support, it’s possible to rewire and strengthen these skills—slowly, gently, and in ways that fit you.

Healing Mental Health Through Understanding the natural human conflict. First we need to be open to a different way of thinking and be prepared to unlearn some of the old perspectives and assumptions that have been harmful and contribute to worsening mental health .
• When we understand that our struggles come from a deep, natural conflict—not from being bad or broken—we begin to feel relief from shame and self-judgment.
• This different perspective helps people make sense of their emotions, choices such as anger, anxiety, addiction, and depression, seeing them as reactions to unresolved inner conflict or suffering, not personal failure or being flawed, broken or disordered.
• By understanding that our pain is part of the universal human journey, we can:
• Develop more self-compassion
• Let go of guilt
• Reconnect with our true, cooperative nature
• Shift from trying to “fix” ourselves to understanding and accepting ourselves and the freedom to choose a different way forward.

Much of what is labeled disordered is actually very ordered when looked at from a stress, trauma and survival perspective.

A deep shift in our mental and emotional states is possible when we understand this inner conflict and it ripples out to all areas of our lives. Lasting change is possible when we open our minds to a different perspective.
