Our wonderful volunteers came together for a special Christmas lunch today.
Lovingly prepared by our hospitality team, the lunch was a fun way for the volunteers to connect and celebrate in the lead up to the silly season. Managers and staff were on hand to ensure the volunteers enjoyed the festivities, and know just how much they are appreciated.

Volunteers work across the hospital and Connery Centre on John Rice Ave, looking after patients and helping staff in a myriad of ways.

A huge thank you to each and every one of our dedicated volunteers, and a very Merry Christmas from the bottom of our hearts!

Congratulations also to our team Award Nominees, and to overall winners – the Day Surgery Unit!

The day surgery team works very cohesively. Everyone is kind, caring, compassionate and friendly to staff and patients. We are very professional in our daily work and uphold the Calvary values in all that we do. We show our stewardship to the future generations of nurses with all of the mentoring we provide to our students. We support each other and our staff morale is excellent. We are like a big family always laughing and the patients enjoy the friendly atmosphere when they come in for surgery. It always makes them feel welcome and at ease. We are a wonderful department to work in and everyone deserves the recognition of their hard work.

The day surgery team show all of Calvary values.
Respect - they value and respect the dignity of all patients coming into the department. They treat the patients with kindness and support the anxious when needed.

They are always happy and work with a smile. No job is too small, and always go above and beyond not just for the patients, but for each other. Team work.

They have empathy and compassion for all. They are the beginning and ending for patient advocacy throughout the patients admission.

Congratulations to all nominees, and especially to our Individual Award winner Rob H.

Celebrating Perioperative Nurses Week with our outstanding team.

These are the faces that greet and ready patients for surgery, who care for them during and after their procedure, and who ensure all the instruments and equipment is clean, sterile and ready to go.

Thank you for all that you do to keep our patients safe and well cared for. You’re genuine care, professionalism and expertise are second to none, and we value each and every one of you!

Today on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, at the eleventh hour, we honour the memory of those who died or who were injured in wars and armed conflicts.

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

Staff were on hand at the TAFE SA Careers Week Expo, where they connected with a diverse group of attendees including school leavers, new migrants, individuals with English as a second language, and those seeking to re-enter the workforce or progress their careers.

Lara and Bree showcased the wide range of employment opportunities available across housekeeping, kitchen, cleaning, nursing, and allied health assistance roles. The event was vibrant and engaging, with an estimated 500 attendees throughout the day, providing an excellent platform to promote Calvary and the rewarding career pathways we offer.

Celebrations to mark Calvary’s 125 years in South Australia culminated in a spectacular Gala Ball on the weekend, where staff, specialists, volunteers, sponsors and special guests came together to acknowledge this remarkable ‘quasquicentennial’ milestone.

The joy-filled evening, with beautiful MC Lauren from Adelady, featured a video which showcased Calvary’s rich history along with the variety of services now offered across SA, including our hospitals, home care, aged, and residential care. It highlighted the people within Calvary who continue the legacy of care that has been passed from the Sisters who arrived in Adelaide from Sydney in 1900, to carry on the work of Mary Potter here today.

As part of the celebrations, fundraising efforts via a silent auction and wine wall were well supported, and it is our great pleasure to announce that funds raised on the evening exceeded $20,000. These have gone directly to The Mary Potter Foundation Inc which supports the Mary Potter Hospice in its mission to provide loving, dignified, and meaningful end-of-life care for patients and their families.

The sold-out event would not have been possible without our sponsors which included HPS, Schiavello, and Wilhelm – along with wine sponsor Sorby Adams Wines. We thank them all sincerely for their generosity and support.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a truly special celebration, and we look forward to continuing our mission of care for our community into the future.

The insights of patients, family members, and carers, are invaluable as they help us deliver patient-centred care, and contribute to our mission of excellence in healthcare. We are currently looking for more people to become Consumer Representatives; people who can make a real impact on the way we care for our community.

Judy, one of our Consumer Representatives says “The staff bounce things off me and ask me to get involved in decision making and so forth. And so, I really feel as if I am contributing. It's been a fantastic role and I really, really enjoy it.”

Congratulations to Luisa, who is the latest recipient of the Staff Recognition Award!

"I would love to recognise Luisa who consistently demonstrates all of Calvary’s values. Luisa is more than a team leader in the cafe - she is a light in our hospital. Whether it’s her warm smile that greets every single person who walks into the cafe, her genuine care for staff and patients, or her incredible work ethic, Luisa radiates the spirit of Calvary in everything she does. Not only does she make the BEST coffee’s, but she remembers people’s names and regular orders, whether staff or patients who have had a lengthy stay in hospital, which brings healing in the smallest, most meaningful ways. She deserves to be recognised, not just for what she does, but for who she is as a person.”
