We’re taking a special moment to acknowledge, today is World Alzheimer’s Day (September 21). 💜

We’re here to recognise the universal courage of those living with Alzheimer’s - and the families who support them. 🌷

It’s not a normal part of ageing, and it doesn’t just affect one person - it touches their family, friends, and extended community. 🤝

And that’s why raising awareness is a team effort: noticing the signs, starting compassionate conversations, and putting the right support in place early. 🤗

In our small way of honoring those affected, we’ve launched a weekly crossword challenge on our website. 🧩

R U OK? We all have so much going on, and life can be chaotic - we never know what others are going through. 🙏

But checking in on someone doesn't mean having to make a grand or timely gesture. And it's really okay not to be okay. 💐

Whether it's someone you know or someone you've just met, simply asking, "R U OK?" can make a world of difference to someone's mental health and wellbeing. 💛

With more than 208,000 older Australians waiting, either to be assessed or to receive a Home Care Package (HCP), the system is, as Senator Anne Ruston aptly put it, “...nothing short of a national crisis.”

But there is hope on the horizon: Health Minister Mark Butler confirmed the release of 20,000 new HCPs from yesterday until the end of October, followed by an additional 20,000 packages to be released by Christmas this year.

The backlog won’t disappear overnight, and the system remains tough to navigate. That’s why we’ve pulled together a clear snapshot of the aged care landscape to equip you (and your loved ones) with all the key info you need:

When applying for a Home Care Package (HCP), it's crucial to carefully review your financial situation. 🔎

Understanding the different fee components, especially income-tested fees (ITFs), will help you maximise your care budget and ensure you're getting the best value. 🪴

Be sure to keep your financial details up to date to avoid overpaying. If your income has changed or you’ve sold an asset, for instance, you shouldn’t continue paying higher contributions than necessary.

To further empower you along your care journey, we've put together the following guide to income-tested fees 🤲 (including the key factors to be mindful of):

🧘‍♂️ Want to improve your posture? Here’s how to keep your back and neck pain-free!

As we get older, our posture can change, and that often leads to aches and pains, especially in our back and neck. But the good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way! A few small adjustments to your daily habits can make a big difference in how you feel.

Here are some simple tips to help you stand tall and stay pain-free:
1️⃣ Adjust your furniture – Make sure your chair and sofa support your lower back. Consider adding cushions or lumbar supports to encourage good posture.
2️⃣ Keep your feet flat on the floor – When sitting, ensure your feet are supported and your knees are at a 90-degree angle. This helps relieve strain on your back.
3️⃣ Stretch regularly – Simple stretches can keep your muscles flexible and prevent stiffness. Try gentle neck stretches and back twists to release tension.
4️⃣ Stand tall – Imagine a string pulling you gently upwards from the top of your head. It sounds simple, but standing tall can help align your spine and prevent slouching.
5️⃣ Take breaks – If you’re sitting for long periods, stand up and move around every 30 minutes to avoid stiffness.

Your body is your best friend. Treat it well, and it will support you for years to come. 🙌

👂 If you’ve been putting off a hearing test, here’s why it’s more important than you think.

Did you know that hearing loss can affect more than just your ability to hear; it can impact your mood, your relationships, and even your overall health? Early detection of hearing issues means you can take steps to improve your quality of life and stay connected to the world around you.

Why hearing tests are important:

✅ Improved communication – Don’t miss out on conversations with loved ones. Clear hearing helps you stay connected.

✅ Better overall health – Untreated hearing loss has been linked to cognitive decline and depression.

✅ Staying independent – With the right support, you can keep enjoying your daily activities without struggle.
