Perimenopause comes with a lot of changes, and it can feel confusing:

- Irregular cycles

- Hot flushes

- Brain fog

- Low motivation

- Weight shifts

It’s your hormones shifting, and your body adjusting to a new phase.

You don’t need to guess or struggle through it alone.

At The Perimenopause Workshop, we break it down simply: what’s happening, what’s normal, and practical ways to feel steadier, more energetic, and back in control.

Some days, I don’t feel motivated.

The brain fog hits.

The exhaustion hits.

But one thing gets me moving: Stanley absolutely does not care about my perimenopause!

Walking has become my reset button:
- Fresh air helps clear the mind
- Gentle movement supports metabolism
- Routine helps regulate hormones
- Nature helps lower stress hormones

And honestly, it’s 20 minutes where I don’t have to think about anyone else, just me and the fluffy guy.

If you’re in your 40s and struggling with energy, start here:10–20 minutes outside. Most days. No pressure. No performance. No guilt.Just moving your body because it feels good to look after yourself.

Feeling exhausted, even after a full night’s sleep?
Or noticing that your motivation just isn’t what it used to be?

This is very common in perimenopause. Hormone fluctuations can affect your energy levels, nervous system, and recovery, so what used to be easy now feels heavy.

Small changes can make a real difference:

- Regular meals with protein and fibre

- Gentle, consistent movement

- Short breaks or pauses during the day

- Simple evening routines to help your body recharge

If you’re wondering how to make this actually work in real life, that’s exactly what we go through in The Perimenopause Workshop.

Noticing your weight is shifting, energy dips are hitting hard, or cravings are stronger than usual?

You’re not imagining it. Perimenopause changes how your body handles insulin, the hormone that balances blood sugar.

When cells become less responsive to insulin, your body releases more of it. This can lead to:

- Weight around your belly

- Afternoon energy crashes

- Cravings for carbs or sweets

- Feeling puffy or bloated

It’s not about willpower, it’s biology.

Understanding why this happens is the first step to feeling steadier, more energetic, and managing weight in a way that actually works.

💛 I’ll be unpacking this at The Perimenopause Workshop on 29 November 2025 in Emerald, where we cover blood sugar, energy, hormones, and simple strategies you can use straight away.

Lately I’ve been noticing something new: mental fatigue.

I’m used to physical tiredness; I was a shift worker for years. But this “brain fog + low motivation + everything feels harder to start” kind of fatigue is different.

And I’ll be honest, it rattled me at first.

It took me a while to realise, this is perimenopause too.

And once I understood what was shifting hormonally, I could make small tweaks that made a big difference. Nothing extreme. Just a few food tweaks, better sleep boundaries (put the phone down!), and learning to pause before I push myself too far.

I want you to know, if you’re feeling this too, that you’re not the only one.

Let’s look after your health in a way that works for you.

Many women in their 40s notice they can’t “push through” stress the same way anymore.

This isn’t weakness, and it’s not a mindset issue.

During perimenopause, your nervous system becomes more sensitive because your hormones are fluctuating. Your brain is using more energy to maintain balance — so stress feels heavier.

When we work with this instead of pushing against it, things get easier:

- Regular meals (especially protein)

- Earlier wind-down for sleep

- Exercise that supports your energy (not drains it)

- Small pockets of rest throughout the day

If you’re thinking,
“Okay…but how do I actually do that in real life?”
That’s exactly what we go through in The Perimenopause Workshop.

Feeling more tired? More emotional? More easily overwhelmed?

That is actually normally for many during perimenopause, your hormones influence your brain, nervous system and stress tolerance.

Once you understand the why, it becomes easier to choose foods, habits and supports that help you feel more steady day to day.

Let’s make this feel a bit easier.

If you’ve been thinking:“Why does normal life feel harder than it used to?”There’s a reason for that.

Perimenopause increases your brain’s energy needs and lowers your tolerance for ongoing stress.

Your body is recalibrating

The key is adjusting how you look after yourself:

• Steadier meals (protein + fibre + colour)
• Winding down before bed
• Reducing “always on” stress load
• Simple exercise that supports, not drains
• Supporting hormonal shifts rather than fighting them

Once you work with your physiology, day-to-day life starts to feel more manageable again.

You don’t need to push harder. You need support that makes sense for this phase.

If you’ve been feeling a bit more emotional lately…
Or like your patience is thinner than it used to be…
Or you just don’t quite feel like yourself right now

I want you to know something

You’re not falling apart.
Your body is shifting.
And it’s asking for new support, not more pressure.

Perimenopause can touch so many parts of your life, sleep, mood, energy, metabolism, strength, motivation, how your clothes fit, and how easily you bounce back from stress.

So when you’re feeling “off,” it’s not imagined and it’s not a personal failure.

✨ It’s your hormones changing.
🧠 It’s your nervous system adapting.
❤️ It’s your body doing its best with the information it has.

And here’s the good news:

When you understand what’s happening, things start to feel lighter.
More manageable.
Less confusing.
You feel more like you again.

That’s exactly what our upcoming workshop is about.
Clarity. Confidence. Compassion.
No overwhelm. No judgement.

Just women supporting women.

If you’ve noticed you’re crying more easily…
Or snapping quicker than you used to…
Or just feeling more than usual, your body isn’t being dramatic.

It’s responding to hormonal shifts that influence your mood, nervous system, and stress response.

This isn’t about being “too sensitive.”
It’s about being human in a changing body.

When we understand what’s happening, the emotional load feels a little lighter, because we stop blaming ourselves for something that’s biological.

You don’t have to power through, push harder, or pretend you’re fine.

You’re allowed to soften here.

About Annie Barrett Naturopath

Hi I’m Annie, a naturopath and medical scientist based in Caloundra, Sunshine Coast.

A bit about me

For nearly ten years I felt stressed, tired, overwhelmed, and had sleep and digestive issues. Even if I managed to get 8hrs sleep, I still woke feeling exhausted, my body felt achy and heavy all the time. I found it difficult to concentrate and my memory was rubbish, at times even stringing a sentence together was hard work! I was totally burnt-out.

This is not an uncommon occurrence, too many of us feel this way.
