If you’ve been running on coffee and determination, this one’s for you.

In perimenopause, your adrenal glands step up to help make hormones, while also managing your stress response.

If they’re overworked, you’ll feel it as exhaustion, anxiety, or that “wired but tired” feeling at night.

Your body is likely overstretched. Here’s how to support it:
🌙 Keep a consistent bedtime and gentle wind-down routine
🥗 Eat regular, balanced meals (don’t skip breakfast!)
🌿 Try calming herbs like Withania or Reishi mushrooms
🚶‍♀️ Choose steady movement like walking, yoga, or swimming

When you give your nervous system a rest, your energy starts to rebuild.

💛 You don’t have to push harder, just give your body what it’s been asking for.

Tell me, what helps you unwind after a long day?

If you’re ready to understand what’s really driving your fatigue, I’m now taking new 1:1 clients after my perimenopause workshop.

Book a consultation (online or in-person) and let’s build your energy back, together.

Ever notice that your energy crashes right around 3 p.m.?

You reach for something sweet, get a quick boost… and then crash again.

That’s your blood sugar rollercoaster, and during perimenopause, it can feel even wilder than usual.

As oestrogen fluctuates, your body becomes less sensitive to insulin.

The result?

More spikes, more crashes, more fatigue.

But the fix doesn’t have to be complicated:
🍳 Eat protein with every meal (especially breakfast)
🥑 Pair carbs with fibre and healthy fats
🍠 Avoid skipping meals; it stresses your adrenals
🌰 Keep balanced snacks handy (like boiled eggs, nuts, or Greek yoghurt)

You’ll notice steadier energy, fewer cravings, and a clearer head.

💬 What’s your go-to protein-rich snack when you’re on the go?

💛 If you’d like perimenopause support and to get your energy back, you can book a 1:1 consult (online or in-person), and I’ll help you create a plan that fits your lifestyle and goals.

Why am I so tired all the time?”

Ever feel like you’re dragging yourself through the day, even after a full night’s sleep?
That second (or third) coffee doesn’t seem to touch the sides.

If you’re in your 40s, that deep, unshakable fatigue is often one of the first signs that your hormones are starting to shift. During perimenopause, changes in oestrogen and progesterone can throw off how your body handles stress, sleep, and energy.

Add in busy days, family, work, and the realities of rural life, and your poor nervous system rarely gets a break.

Here’s what might be going on behind the scenes:
✨ Oestrogen dips can make sleep lighter and more restless
✨ Progesterone drops can increase anxiety and reduce deep rest
✨ Cortisol (your stress hormone) starts doing more heavy lifting than it should
✨ Blood sugar swings can leave you feeling wired one minute and flat the next

The good news?

Once you understand what’s happening, you can turn things around.

Supporting your nervous system, balancing blood sugar, and nourishing your adrenals can make a huge difference to your day-to-day energy.

You don’t have to push through exhaustion; there are ways to rebuild your spark.

Drop a 💛 below if this sounds familiar.

I’ll be sharing my top 3 strategies for better energy in perimenopause next week.

Perimenopause comes with a lot of changes, and it can feel confusing:

- Irregular cycles

- Hot flushes

- Brain fog

- Low motivation

- Weight shifts

It’s your hormones shifting, and your body adjusting to a new phase.

You don’t need to guess or struggle through it alone.

At The Perimenopause Workshop, we break it down simply: what’s happening, what’s normal, and practical ways to feel steadier, more energetic, and back in control.

Some days, I don’t feel motivated.

The brain fog hits.

The exhaustion hits.

But one thing gets me moving: Stanley absolutely does not care about my perimenopause!

Walking has become my reset button:
- Fresh air helps clear the mind
- Gentle movement supports metabolism
- Routine helps regulate hormones
- Nature helps lower stress hormones

And honestly, it’s 20 minutes where I don’t have to think about anyone else, just me and the fluffy guy.

If you’re in your 40s and struggling with energy, start here:10–20 minutes outside. Most days. No pressure. No performance. No guilt.Just moving your body because it feels good to look after yourself.

Feeling exhausted, even after a full night’s sleep?
Or noticing that your motivation just isn’t what it used to be?

This is very common in perimenopause. Hormone fluctuations can affect your energy levels, nervous system, and recovery, so what used to be easy now feels heavy.

Small changes can make a real difference:

- Regular meals with protein and fibre

- Gentle, consistent movement

- Short breaks or pauses during the day

- Simple evening routines to help your body recharge

If you’re wondering how to make this actually work in real life, that’s exactly what we go through in The Perimenopause Workshop.

Noticing your weight is shifting, energy dips are hitting hard, or cravings are stronger than usual?

You’re not imagining it. Perimenopause changes how your body handles insulin, the hormone that balances blood sugar.

When cells become less responsive to insulin, your body releases more of it. This can lead to:

- Weight around your belly

- Afternoon energy crashes

- Cravings for carbs or sweets

- Feeling puffy or bloated

It’s not about willpower, it’s biology.

Understanding why this happens is the first step to feeling steadier, more energetic, and managing weight in a way that actually works.

💛 I’ll be unpacking this at The Perimenopause Workshop on 29 November 2025 in Emerald, where we cover blood sugar, energy, hormones, and simple strategies you can use straight away.

Lately I’ve been noticing something new: mental fatigue.

I’m used to physical tiredness; I was a shift worker for years. But this “brain fog + low motivation + everything feels harder to start” kind of fatigue is different.

And I’ll be honest, it rattled me at first.

It took me a while to realise, this is perimenopause too.

And once I understood what was shifting hormonally, I could make small tweaks that made a big difference. Nothing extreme. Just a few food tweaks, better sleep boundaries (put the phone down!), and learning to pause before I push myself too far.

I want you to know, if you’re feeling this too, that you’re not the only one.

Let’s look after your health in a way that works for you.

Many women in their 40s notice they can’t “push through” stress the same way anymore.

This isn’t weakness, and it’s not a mindset issue.

During perimenopause, your nervous system becomes more sensitive because your hormones are fluctuating. Your brain is using more energy to maintain balance — so stress feels heavier.

When we work with this instead of pushing against it, things get easier:

- Regular meals (especially protein)

- Earlier wind-down for sleep

- Exercise that supports your energy (not drains it)

- Small pockets of rest throughout the day

If you’re thinking,
“Okay…but how do I actually do that in real life?”
That’s exactly what we go through in The Perimenopause Workshop.

About Annie Barrett Naturopath

Hi I’m Annie, a naturopath and medical scientist based in Caloundra, Sunshine Coast.

A bit about me

For nearly ten years I felt stressed, tired, overwhelmed, and had sleep and digestive issues. Even if I managed to get 8hrs sleep, I still woke feeling exhausted, my body felt achy and heavy all the time. I found it difficult to concentrate and my memory was rubbish, at times even stringing a sentence together was hard work! I was totally burnt-out.

This is not an uncommon occurrence, too many of us feel this way.
