Over three-quarters of a million Victorians are unpaid carers.
They’re everyday people who provide unpaid care and support to family members or friends with a disability, mental illness, substance addiction, chronic health issue or an older person with care needs. They’re parents, children, partners, other relatives and friends who assist with a variety of daily activities.

There’s at least a 1 in 10 chance that you are, know or will be a carer.
Join Carers Victoria this National Carers Week 12-18 October 2025 to recognise , celebrate and care for these incredible people!

October 10 is World Mental Health Day. This year, Mental Health Australia is
encouraging everyone to connect with the communities that matter to them. Connecting with our communities can help us feel cared for and supported, which is beneficial for our mental health.

Taking care of your mental health can feel overwhelming at times, however small steps can make a big difference. This month try to:

1. Connect with people – reach out to friends, family, or your community.

2. Stay active – movement helps both body and mind.

3. Do something you enjoy – even small moments of joy matter.

4. Pay attention to the present moments – try practicing mindfulness

5. Prioritise rest – good sleep is essential for wellbeing.

6. Make a “no list” – give yourself permission to say no to things that drain you.

If you're living with depression, you’re not alone – and it’s not just about being “sad” or “negative.” Depression can affect your energy, motivation, sleep, concentration, and how you see yourself and the world. It’s deeply human – and deeply misunderstood. That’s why healing takes more than just “cheering up” or “thinking positive.” It takes understanding, support, and a whole lot of self-kindness.

Here are some gentle, psychology-informed ideas that might help you feel a little more supported and a little less alone – and remind you that your mental health deserves care, not criticism.

1. Focus on What You Need, Not Just What You "Should" Be Doing
2. Your Struggles Make Sense- Even If They're Hard To Explain
3. Kindness Isn't A Luxury- It's A Lifeline
4. Small Wins Matter- Even Tiny Ones
5. You Don't Have To Do This Alone

Today is R U OK? Day — a reminder that a simple question can make a big difference. You don’t need to be an expert to start a conversation. Taking a moment to check in with a family member, friend, or colleague shows you care and can give them the chance to open up and feel supported.

We had a small morning tea which gave our team a chance to check up on each other and have some nice conversations. Be sure to take the time today to have a chat with someone you care about. Your support might mean more than you realise. 💛 And remember, asking R U OK? can be done any day.

If you’re dealing with weight challenges, you’re not alone - and it’s not just about food or willpower. Weight struggles are often connected to stress, emotions, habits, and even past experiences. That’s why making lasting changes often takes more than a diet or exercise plan. It takes support, self-understanding, and kindness.

Some gentle, psychology-based ideas that might help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed include:

1. Focus on How You Feel, Not Just the Numbers
2. Emotional Eating Is Common - And Understandable
3. Kindness Works Better Than Criticism
4. Start Small and Keep It Simple
5. It’s Okay to Ask for Help
