Sarcomas are a rare and complex group of cancers that begin in the body’s connective tissues—such as bone, muscle, cartilage, fat, blood vessels, and nerves. These tissues play essential roles in movement, support, and overall body function, which is why sarcomas can affect so many aspects of health and daily living.

There are over 70 types of sarcoma, generally classified as:
➡Bone sarcomas, which affect the skeletal system, and
➡Soft tissue sarcomas, which may develop in muscles, fat, or ligaments.

Why education matters:
Because sarcomas are so uncommon, they’re often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. Raising awareness can help to shorten diagnosis times and improve outcomes. For massage therapists, understanding how these cancers - and their treatments - impact the body is vital to offering safe, appropriate care.
