🇦🇺 Australia Day Public Holiday Notice

The Family Practice Emu Park will be closed on Monday 26 January due to the Australia Day public holiday.

If you have an urgent medical matter, please call 000.

We will have a doctor on call on the day. This service will incur a fee.
To access the on-call doctor, please phone 4913 9300 and follow the prompts.

The Central Queensland Public Health Unit has confirmed a case of measles in an overseas traveller who has visited the Yeppoon region.

Contact tracing has been completed and two local exposure sites have been identified:

• Oshen Apartments, 6 - 8 January
• Capricorn Coast Health Service, 6 January (evening) - 7 January (early morning)

The health service has notified all close contacts. The risk of infection to the broader community remains very low.

Measles is a highly infectious virus that is spread by coughing and sneezing or through direct contact with secretions from the nose or mouth. Symptoms usually start 7-10 days after contact with an infected person but can sometimes take as long as three weeks.

Measles usually starts as a flu-like illness with symptoms that include:
🤒fever
😪tiredness
🥵blotchy rash that spreads from head/face to rest of body
😷severe cough
👀red/sore eyes
👃runny nose
👄white spots in the mouth

If you develop symptoms, seek medical care. Call ahead to let the practice or hospital know you may have been exposed to measles. For advice, contact 13HEALTH.

Everyone should ensure they are vaccinated for measles, particularly if you are due to travel overseas.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Len Knott on His Second Retirement! 🎉

This week we celebrate Dr. Len Knott as he retires (for the second time!) after an incredible 55 years of service to communities across South East Queensland — and more recently, right here at Emu Park.

Dr Knott graciously came out of retirement in 2023 to help our Practice with a GP shortage. We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Len for his dedication, compassion, and the exceptional care he has provided to his patients over so many years. His kindness, wisdom, and commitment to his profession have left a lasting impact on both colleagues and the community.

Dr. Len now looks forward to spending more time with his loved ones — especially his grandchildren — and hopes to relocate soon to be closer to them.

From all of us, thank you, Dr. Len, for everything you have done. We wish you a happy, healthy, and very well-deserved retirement! 🌿💙

We know it’s not always easy to get an appointment right away, especially if your Doctor is away or you need a script urgently. To help, Dr Georges Oteng is trialing a new online repeat prescription service.

How it works:
✅ Request your prescription online via the AMS Connect App
✅ Standard script – $35, ready the same day
✅ Emergency script – $50, ready within 1 hour
🚫 This service is not available for Schedule 8 medications or antibiotics

Please note, if this service isn’t appropriate for your specific health needs, you’ll be referred back to your usual Doctor.

This trial is designed to make sure patients can access safe, timely care from Doctors who know their medical history.

🌿 Dr Katie Ilott’s books are currently closed to new patients. Many of her existing patients will likely be following her to Figtree, and this helps ensure continuity of care during our early weeks.

🌿 Dr Nadim Cody is welcoming both existing and new patients, and is looking forward to connecting with patients and settling into this new practice.
