You may have seen some recent media coverage about the RSV vaccine.

Good news! It’s now been expanded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) to include people aged 75+, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60+, and it will be free for those eligible.

The program starts from Friday 15th of May.

We’ll be stocking the vaccine as soon as it becomes available and will continue to receive supply. As this is a government program, deliveries may come through in stages and supply quantities can vary.

For now, we’re taking enquiries only. If you’re interested, give us a call from Tuesday 12th of May and we can check availability arrange appointment for you.

Any questions, just contact our reception team on 4913 8100

Not sure what appointment length to book?

Choosing the correct appointment type helps ensure your GP has enough time to properly address your concerns and provide the best possible care.

Standard appointments (15minutes) are usually suitable for a single issue, repeat prescription or simple review.

A longer appointment (30, 45 or 60 minutes) may be helpful if you:
💙 have multiple concerns to discuss
💙 would like mental health support
💙 require paperwork, forms or care plans
💙 have a complex or ongoing condition
💙 need medicals such as insurance, employment or driver’s licence assessments

If you feel you may need more time, we encourage booking a longer appointment. This allows for more thorough discussion and helps avoid feeling rushed.

We kindly ask that appointments focus on the issue they were booked for. If additional concerns arise, a follow-up appointment can always be arranged.

Thank you for helping us care for all patients efficiently and ensure everyone receives the time and attention they need.

You’re always welcome to bring a family member, friend or carer to your appointment. Having support can be really helpful, especially when discussing health concerns or remembering important information.

If the person attending with you would also like medical advice, a separate appointment will usually be needed. This helps ensure each patient receives enough time, privacy and attention for their individual concerns.

GP appointments are carefully scheduled so doctors can provide safe, thorough and personalised care for everyone. Allowing adequate time for each person also helps the clinic run smoothly and reduces delays for other patients.

If needed, our reception team is always happy to help organise another appointment time.

Thank you for helping us support the care of all patients.

The Central Queensland Public Health Unit has confirmed a case of measles in an overseas traveller who has visited the Yeppoon region.

Contact tracing has been completed and two local exposure sites have been identified:

• Oshen Apartments, 6 - 8 January
• Capricorn Coast Health Service, 6 January (evening) - 7 January (early morning)

The health service has notified all close contacts. The risk of infection to the broader community remains very low.

Measles is a highly infectious virus that is spread by coughing and sneezing or through direct contact with secretions from the nose or mouth. Symptoms usually start 7-10 days after contact with an infected person but can sometimes take as long as three weeks.

Measles usually starts as a flu-like illness with symptoms that include:
🤒fever
😪tiredness
🥵blotchy rash that spreads from head/face to rest of body
😷severe cough
👀red/sore eyes
👃runny nose
👄white spots in the mouth

If you develop symptoms, seek medical care. Call ahead to let the practice or hospital know you may have been exposed to measles. For advice, contact 13HEALTH.

Everyone should ensure they are vaccinated for measles, particularly if you are due to travel overseas.

🎄❤️ Thank You, Emu Park! ❤️🎄

A huge thank you to our amazing patients and our wonderful staff for your generosity in this year’s Christmas Donation Drive to help support Food Relief Capricorn Coast. Looking at this growing pile of donations under our tree has truly warmed our hearts. ✨

Every year we proudly support this cause to help local families, individuals doing it tough, and our much-loved elderly community members who may need a little extra care at Christmastime. Once again, Emu Park has shown just how big its heart really is. 💚

We’re so grateful to be part of a community that rallies together to support each other — it’s what makes this place so special.

Wishing everyone a warm, safe and very Merry Christmas from all of us at The Family Practice Emu Park. 🎁🌟

Today is a beautiful reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day. 💛

Whether it’s a colleague, a family member, a neighbour, or someone you cross paths with in the community—take a moment to show a little kindness. A smile, a compliment, a helping hand, or even a quick check-in can brighten someone’s world more than you realise.

Let’s spread kindness today and every day. Together, small moments create big impact. ✨
