Today I received the most heartbreaking email. 💔

TW (su***de).

As a Registered Counsellor and professional member of the Australian Counselling Association, I receive monthly newsletters with training opportunities and industry updates. But today, it was the statistics that hit me hard.

According to the most recent Australian Bureau of Statistics report, an average of 8.6 people die by su***de every single day in this country.

I can’t begin to describe the ache in my heart reading that.

This is the reality I face daily in my work.

These are not just numbers. These are lives.
These are people who couldn’t wait any longer.

The system is broken. And people are literally dying while waiting for care, for support, for someone to see them and say, “I’ve got you.”

I’ve long held a vision close to my heart. The creation of a mental health wellness centre in my community. A place with a quiet drop-in space. No forms. No waitlists. Just a warm cup of tea and someone to talk to. A place for anyone in need.

I don’t have it yet. But I’m working toward it, with every bit of energy and love I have. Because we all deserve better.

If you're reading this and if you're struggling, if the weight feels too heavy, if you feel like a burden, or like no one understands, please hear this:

You are not alone.
You matter.
Your life is valuable.
And you are so worth fighting for.

If you're in crisis or need someone to talk to, please reach out:

Lifeline: 13 11 14

Su***de Call Back Service: 1300 659 467

13YARN: 13 92 76 (for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples)

You deserve to be here.

And, if you need a space to be, to let it all unravel, to share the depths of your heartache right now, then please know that space can be The Still Space. I'm here.

With love,
Sammy ❤️

On the 25th of April, Australia and New Zealand pause to reflect and commemorate the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our countries. We all also pause to remember the current service men and women who are currently on deployment and continue to serve with honour.

Police are appealing to members of the community to take a step back and think about their behaviour this ANZAC Day long weekend.

May the memory of their deeds and sacrifice never be forgotten.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day is a time to reflect and a time to remember that the consequences of conflict stretch beyond the battlefield.

Every year we pause at 11 am, on the 11th day of the 11th month to commemorate the sacrifice made by those Australians who have served in conflict.

Today marks the start of the NSW Health campaign for sepsis awareness to educate the community about the condition when your body has an extreme response to an infection. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention. It can cause death or permanent damage to your body without treatment. People with sepsis say they feel very sick (the worst they have ever felt) and get sick very quickly. Symptoms can include fever or chills, rapid heart rate, difficulty breathing, vomiting or diarrhoea, confusion, feeling more sleepy, low or no urine or a new rash. If you feel unwell or are concerned, visit your doctor or call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222, even if you have already seen a doctor. If you are very sick, go to a hospital emergency department or call Triple Zero (000). Don’t be afraid to ask “Could it be sepsis?” To learn more about sepsis visit health.nsw.gov.au/sepsis
