🎙️ Episode #7: 'Grandparenting & Faith Part 2– Faith, Family, and Cartoons – A Conversation with Zia Ahmed' - LAUNCHING TODAY!

Welcome back to The Modern Grandparenting Podcast. In this episode, we’re joined by Zia Ahmed — founder and editor of the Australasian Muslim Times and a respected Islamic community leader based in Western Sydney.

Zia comes from a long line of strong family and community connections — his great-grandfather lived to the remarkable age of 103. Continuing that legacy, Zia has spent decades fostering a vibrant, faith-driven community. His weekly gatherings bring people together to study, reflect, and act on shared values. He’s also one of the key figures behind a beloved community festival that’s been running for 40 years and now draws over 20,000 attendees.

Beyond his public work, Zia is a devoted grandfather who cherishes the simple joys of time spent with his grandchildren — especially watching cartoons together. In this episode, Zia shares insights on the importance of intergenerational relationships, the role of faith in modern grandparenting, and how small moments can build lasting bonds.

* HSC Stress & the Value of R.E.S.T. *

With the start of the HSC only moments away for our students across NSW, we revisit a recent timely blog by Registered Psychologist, Sarah Piper from The Resilience Centre.

Sometimes when we are in a state of stress, we are in it but we can't see it. So what to do? It feels like there’s no way out but there is. There has to be.

Sarah has the answer for us. It’s called REST:

'R'eally ….
just 'E'at,
'S'leep and
'T'ake some time out.

Have a read from her here about the value of R.E.S.T ...

https://www.theresiliencecentre.com.au/.../you-dont-know.../

I was reminded of this age old phrase when recently I had a rather funny interaction with a lovely Year 12 girl whom I’ve been seeing for a while. Like many HSC students, she was presenting with a lot of stress symptoms and was most definitely feeling overloaded with a sense that there was no end ...

The Resilience Centre is honoured to be partnering with the Pro Patria Centre and at their '12 Months On' Conference on Wednesday in Wagga Wagga, Dr Lyn Worsley presented the findings from our work with them so far.

Using the model of 'The Resilience Doughnut', as well as our data reporting tool - the 'Resilience Report', a small sample study shows trends that are the same findings from large sample studies at The Resilience Centre.

When we measure the effects of resilience resources on stress, anxiety and depression, our 'social prescribing approach' at the Centre, as well as with our veterans, sees a lowering in the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

When we use 'what works well' already, and we put the social determinants of good health into solid action, we enable the strongest resources and meaningful connections to bolster therapeutic change.

This creates hope, as well resilience and wellbeing, now and for the future.
