Did you know? Over 300 Australians are diagnosed with diabetes every day — that’s one person every 5 minutes.

Diabetes is a serious condition that can lead to complications affecting the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves — but early detection and management can significantly reduce the risk.

This week is a reminder to:

As a national leader in Low Dose imaging, Medical Imaging Erina is excited to participate in the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) initiative from July 1, 2025.

Lung cancer is Australia’s leading cause of cancer death. Led by the Australian Government, in partnership with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, the NLCSP aims to improve health outcomes for Australians by increasing early detection of lung cancer and saving lives.

Medical Imaging Erina prioritises the health of our communities - our ongoing partnerships with both Government and local agencies and our continued investment in state of the art technology which enhances the safety and diagnostic outcomes for our patients, ensuring our referring medical practitioners can refer with confidence.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

World Environment Day aims to encourage communities to take action towards protecting the environment. It helps advocate for policy changes and promote environmental policies at local, national, and international levels.
Since this year theme is Bioddiversity, which is the variety of all living things and their interactions. Biodiversity is important because it is a thermometer that measures the health of life on Earth!

To maintain biodiversity, several actions can be taken. These include:
- The creation of new protected areas such as nature reserves, and national and regional parks, as well as the conservation of existing ones.
- Fighting deforestation and habitat depletion.
- Fighting pollution of the atmosphere, water and soil.
- The promotion of environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices, for example by reducing the use of pesticides and other harmful substances.
- Promoting sustainable management practices for natural resources, such as timber and water, and opposing intensive fishing.

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month – This event aims to raise awareness of Australia's second deadliest cancer and funds for the leading community-funded charity dedicated to prevention, early diagnosis, research, quality treatment and the best care for those affected by bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer claims the lives of 103 Australians every week (5,336 people a year) - but it's one of the most treatable types of cancer if detected early.
296 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this week (15,352 people a year).
While the risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn't discriminate, affecting men and women, young and old.

Today is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day. Each year in Australia around 1,815 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

In most cases the cancer will be diagnosed at an advanced stage, where it is very difficult to treat. That is why we're committed to ensuring that every Australian knows more about ovarian cancer and its early symptoms.
