Meet Jarel Kilgour, Psychotherapist at Psychology Perspective.

Jarel holds a Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work and is a Level 4 Member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). His passion for Narrative Therapy centres around empowering clients as the experts of their own lives, helping them to view problems as separate and tapping into their strengths, values and abilities.

Jarel supports individuals navigating grief, loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, identity, sexuality and more. He also has a deep understanding of challenges like immigration and navigating polyamorous relationships.

Registered with Medibank Private, Bupa, HCF and ARHG, Jared provides counselling sessions that are covered by major health funds, WorkCover NSW and the NDIS.

The number of benefits that a good night’s sleep provides is quite amazing. It boosts memory, supports learning, improves heart health, keeps your immune system strong and supports weight management, just to name a few.

However, Revenge Bedtime Procrastination (RBP) can negatively impact the quality of your sleep.

RBP is when we intentionally or unintentionally put off preparing to sleep in an attempt to reclaim personal freedom during the late hours.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have seen a rise in this behaviour, particularly in specific groups of people, such as:

Physical Win 🏃🏼‍♂️
Start your day with a simple exercise routine like a 10 minute stretch. Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day and go for a quick walk during your lunch break. Simple routines like this will boost your energy, productivity and mood.

Mental Win 📖
Engage in activities that stimulate your brain. This can include anything from reading a book or article, or practicing mindfulness for 10 minutes. You could even pick up a new hobby or learn a new skill. Giving yourself these mental wins will keep your brain sharp and engaged.

When you are choosing a therapist, there are a few things to consider to ensure you have a positive and constructive experience.

✅ Reflect on what you are hoping to achieve from your therapy sessions and find a therapist who is aligned with your goals. The values and experience of your therapist can make a significant difference to the outcome you achieve.

✅ Evaluate several potential therapists. Ask yourself if you feel comfortable being open and vulnerable with each therapist. You may even be looking to utilise a specific therapeutic approach in which only a few therapists specialise.

✅ Give thought to your readiness and commitment to engage in self-exploration and growth. It can be difficult for people to achieve a successful outcome in therapy if they are not ready to reflect, be vulnerable and be open to change.

The decision to start therapy is an empowering and brave step towards healing and choosing a therapist that is aligned with your goals can make a big difference in getting you the support you deserve! 💚
