What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?
AEPs are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.
AEP's are accredited by Exercise & Sports Science Australia, which is the peak professional body and sole accrediting authority for Accredited Exercise Physiologists.
Common conditions treated by AEP's include:
>Musculoskeletal conditions, including low back pain, sport and work-related injuries, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis
>Metabolic disorders, including being overweight or obese, and diabetes
>Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease, stroke and hypertension
>Respiratory disorders, including asthma and COPD
>Mental health disorders, including stress-related disorders, post traumatic stress, and anxiety and depressive disorders
>Neurological disorders, including stroke, spinal cord Injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, and traumatic brain injury
>Cancers, including breast and prostate cancers
>Developmental delay disorders, including autism spectrum disorders and cerebral palsy.
