You’ve rested. You’ve tried treatment. But the pain is still there. So what’s going on?
Pain isn’t always about injury, it’s about how your brain processes signals. If you’re stuck in a pain cycle, here’s what to consider:
✔️ Pain ≠ Damage: Just because it hurts doesn’t mean something is broken.
✔️ Scans Don’t Tell the Full Story:Many people have ‘abnormal’ findings but no pain.
✔️ Your Brain is Protecting You: Pain is a warning system, but if it gets stuck in ‘alarm mode,’ it can keep sending pain signals unnecessarily.
✔️ Movement is Key: Avoiding activity can make things worse. The right approach helps retrain your brain to feel safe moving again.
If your pain isn’t improving, it might be time to shift your focus. Understanding how your brain influences pain could be the missing piece!
Let’s help you understand and manage pain the right way https://nwpg.com.au/contact

Congratulations to our client Zac Ashkanasy who recently achieved a world record( yes, a World Record!) in the 800m for his age category 50-55. His time was 1:56:33. To give you some perspective, this is a faster time than the open women were running at the World Athletics Championships in Poland in March this year.
As an experienced runner myself, I can't even sprint that fast! Well done Zac! Great to be in the company of a world record holder !

If Your Body Could Talk, What Would It Say?

“Hey mate, I’m feeling a bit off.”
“That shoulder’s been bugging me for weeks now.”
“That lower back? Yeah, not great.”

But instead of listening, we push through. Because life is busy, and there’s always something more important, right?

Until one day, we wake up and suddenly we can’t move properly. We’re in serious pain, we’re missing work, skipping workouts, and struggling with even simple things.

We see this all the time. People ignore the little warning signs—tightness, stiffness, occasional discomfort—until their body forces them to stop.
Pain doesn’t just appear overnight. It builds up over time.

The good news? You can do something about it before it turns into a major issue. A bit of movement, some simple exercises, or a check-in with your physio can make all the difference.

So, what’s your body telling you today? Maybe it’s time to listen.

Ever been told everything looks “fine”… but you’re still in pain?

One of the most common things we hear:
👉 “No one’s ever looked there before.”

Here’s why…

Most practitioners assess where it hurts.
We assess why it hurts.

That means looking beyond the obvious:
- Checking the lower back for a neck or shoulder issue
- Assessing the neck and shoulders for a low back condition
- assessing below the hips for an arm problem
- Assessing Nerve tension in all 4 limbs(often missed completely)

Because pain isn’t always local.

👉 Joints, muscles, and nerves away from your pain can be driving it.

Sadly many practitioners don't take the time or care to do this, don't understand the connections, or lack the skills and framework to do it effectively.

Miss this?
You miss the real cause.

And that’s when pain lingers for months… even years.
Affecting your energy, mood, hobbies and relationships.

Here’s the shift:
Pain is an output from the brain — not always a sign of damage.
And it rarely matches what scans show.

So if your treatment feels like a “recipe”…
That might be the problem.

✅ Better outcomes come from curiosity and being thorough- not shortcuts.

That’s why we do full-body assessments as standard.
That’s why we look in places others don’t.
And that’s why we get results when others haven’t.

If you’ve tried everything…
Maybe no one’s looked in the right place yet.

March 13 is World Sleep Day so we wanted to highlight the importance of a good night’s sleep.

A critical factor in a good night’s sleep is your pillow.
Have you ever woken up after a night’s rest feeling stiff and sore?
This is usually caused by muscle and joint tension which can develop overnight if your neck is not optimally supported. This tension can disrupt your natural sleep routine and wake you early.

Also, If you’re not sleeping well:
❌There is an increased risk of chronic diseases, like heart disease & diabetes
❌ You may feel more stress, anxiety & depression 😟
❌ You may experience more muscle tension, joint pain & slower recovery from exercise/training.
❌ You may be sick more often

But how do you know which pillow is right for you?
Watch the video above as Graham explains how to find the right pillow.

If you would like a FREE Pillow Fitting, which is a 15min onsite service, please comment SLEEP below.

Today, March 8th, is International Women's Day, a day to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements and rights of women from all over the world.
We're fortunate at Northwest Physiotherapy Group to have a group of wonderful women on our team - Nicole, Marisa, Angela, Jenny, and Allison.
They are an amazing group of smart, creative, and hardworking women and play such an important role in our practice and the lives of all our families.
Their presence is valued not only by the team, but our clients, too!

The real reason we employed a new graduate.

Let’s be honest.
Many clinics hire new grads because they’re cheaper.
Stack the diary.
Short appointments.
High volume = more revenue.

We get it — running a practice is hard.

But when a new physio is thrown in the deep end without real mentoring?
Care becomes transactional.
Hands-on skill gets lost.
Outcomes suffer.

That’s not why we did it.

We employed a new graduate to invest in them — properly.

We believe hands-on skill must be passed down intentionally.
Not rushed.
Not diluted.
Not replaced with generic programs and 10min consults.

We specialise in a whole-body, systematic problem-solving approach to musculoskeletal conditions.
That level of reasoning isn’t learned in a weekend course.
It’s built through months and years of mentoring.

So we chose to:

✔️ Develop a structured in-house mentorship program
✔️ Pass on advanced hands-on skills
✔️ Teach thorough whole-body assessment and problem solving
✔️ Protect the integrity of hands-on physiotherapy

While many are shifting away from hands on care, we embrace it — because in the right hands, for the right person, it gets powerful results. Especially for people no one else has been able to help.

There are other benefits of employing a graduate:

• It keeps us sharp
• It improves us as teachers and clinicians
• It gives clients more choice
• It makes effective treatment more affordable and accessible

Most importantly?

It helps shape the next generation of physios to be skilled, thorough, open-minded and caring professionals.

Protecting the future of our profession means investing in it — not exploiting it.

And our clients deserve nothing less.
