Laughing with Leah Williams in her comments yesterday about parenting tips that actually make a difference and thought I would share how mine went today 🤣
Did I have 4 bottles of hair conditioner and spray in my bag that I didn’t need? Yes
Did I have a dolls pram and doll with more accessories than I own myself in the front seat with me? Yes
But seeing as I’m practicing keeping my no for more important times I decided this wasn’t the hill to die on and I skipped 2 whole threenager tantrums.

When you’re going to say no pause first and check in…am I saying no because it’s annoying or because it’s dangerous?
If you can keep your no for when it’s dangerous it has more of an impact and you decrease push back and arguments in the house 🙌🏼

There’s a part of Motherhood that no one really talks about.
That hard, in between part.
Where you can feel deeply grateful for your life, your kids, everything you have - but still feel overwhelmed, touched out, overstimulated or like you miss parts of who you used to be.

That’s not you being ungrateful.
That’s not you doing it wrong.
There’s a name for that 🩷

It’s called ambivalence. The ability to feel two opposing emotions at the same time.

And once you understand that, the guilt lessens. The pressure, the ‘what’s wrong with me?’ thoughts.

The perspective shift that changes it all for me… ‘what expectation am I setting?’
Realising that this morning I was expecting to leave home on time and slowly seeing that time ticking by felt frustrating at first, until I took a breath and looked deeper.
This isn’t about running late - my child needs me. He isn’t being difficult, he is having a hard time regulating.

These 3 things might help you to change the way you react:
✨ behaviour is communication. There’s always something underneath
✨ your child isn’t giving you a hard time, they are having a hard time
✨ when you notice and let go of expectations (where possible) you are a lot more present and understanding

The Mental Load of Motherhood isn’t just what you do, it’s everything you’re constantly thinking about. The invisible to do list.
It’s why you feel mentally and emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed and burnt out. Even if you’ve ’had a quiet day’.

Some days just hit different than others 😭
One day it’s daycare drop offs, princess crowns and little rituals that feel so normal - watching them learn to make their own breakfast, spread their own peanut butter, carry their favourite toy with them everywhere…and slowly it starts to evolve, without even realising.

We are living in moments we don’t realise are fleeting and yet it can feel like one challenging stage is never going to end.

This is your reminder to soak up the little things - even the chaotic ones ❤️

If you’re feeling the pressure, you’re not alone.
Regulating yourself while also helping little ones to regulate is TOUGH.
This last 2 weeks has felt like it’s flown but also felt so heavy and hard. The readjusting to new routines, new environments and a new school year is hard on everyone in the house.

In case you need the reminder today - you’re doing a great job, even on the days that it doesn’t feel like it. Oh, and also - it’s okay to cry. Even better - it is GOOD to feel your feelings and let them out.
