And that wraps up Movmeber 2023!
Partners, friends and families throughout Eumundi and the Hinterland breathed a sigh of relief as the month of November drew to a close – as it signalled the end of hursuit pursuits from the Eumundi Movember Mo-tribe and their collective facial hair.
Since 2016 this rag tag group of misfits has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Movember, with funds raised going towards tackling men’s mental health, and reducing the rates of su***de, prostate and testicular cancer. And 2023 was no different. A full month of activities were planned to include the wider community and to encourage everyone to begin conversations and to challenge men to reach out and seek support.
The launch party on November 5 at the Imperial Hotel saw over 100 locals support to kick off the month’s initiative, with local ambassador and chef Matt Golinski - Official enthralling the crowd with his story of hope and recovery. Raffles were held, Movember t-shirts were sold and a donated karma keg was drained – all adding to the coffers.
Twice a week ultimate frisbee games were held at the Showgrounds heat, rain and thunderstorms – with up to 26 sporting hacks flinging discs in a display of mad frisbee skills, seamless teamwork and good spirited sportsmanship. Fees from the games and weekly raffles were panted to the cause.
Sunday 12 November saw a moustached tribe of 25 scare the Noosa set with a ‘Hairy Hike’ through the Noosa National Park and on to Sunshine Beach with a well earned rinse in the sea and refreshments at the surf club. This walk complemented the weekly Monday morning walks that saw a crew gather at local cafés before touring the towns hills.
On Sunday 19 the Eumundi Mo-Tribe descended on the Showgrounds for a Drive-n Movie screening of ‘The Castle’. Serenity and laughter filled the grounds as the crowd recited this much-loved Aussie classic verbatim. ‘Tell him he’s dreaming’ and ‘straight to the pool room!’. $1000 was raised from this event, and the incredibly generous Eumundi Showgrounds Association donating $2000.
The month of events concluded with a Car Rally. 17 families drove on a quest answering quiz questions and challenging themselves across the hinterland. Destinations included the Kin Kin Pub and the Dingo Creek winery, traversing winding dirt roads before ending the day with refreshments at the Cooran Brewery.
We are still tallying our fundraising efforts, with our Official Movember account boasting nearly $11K to men's health while we patiently wait for a few committed stragglers to reach in to their wallets.
An incredibly action packed and successful month of fundraising! With Movember over for 2023 a big thank you to everyone involved and a reminder to keep the conversations going and to look after each other. And to the relief of all involved, a removal of dodgy moustaches!
