Why is OXYTOCIN key to reducing your stress, losing weight and balancing your hormones?
Why pleasure is important to health and healing...because it stimulates the QUEEN of all Hormones: Oxytocin!
Oxytocin, your “love hormone”, is your most influential hormone and carries messages to all the other hormones in the body, including your reproductive hormones.
Your body gets boosts of oxytocin from:
Hugging
Holding a baby
Petting your dog or cat
A loving, safe touch
Yoga (especially yoga with a group or partner)
Massage
S*x and self-pleasure
Meditation
Singing, especially with others
Mindful conversation
Oxytocin is your calming hormone, and when you have a meaningful conversation with a friend or practice yoga, the boost in oxytocin sends a signal directly to your hypothalamus. This tells the brain that you’re safe and decreases the hormone cortisol, your stress hormone.
A simple self-care practice for Oxytocin: I invite you to pause here, and bring your hand to your heart. As you take some loving breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth with a sigh...notice how the touch of your hand on your heart feels warm, compassionate and helps you to soften. Placing your hand to your heart releases oxytocin. You might also like to hum gently, and give yourself some massage over your brow and forehead, cheeks, jaw and throat, finally resting your hands over your heart. This not only stimulates your Vagus nerve inducing a calming and soothing effect, it will stimulate Oxytocin through touch and vibration...
