Developmental leaps 😴👇👇👇
These leaps are a very important and normal part of our babies growth! Their brains are going wild and are working overtime learning so much at once!
They can effect baby’s mood and behaviour which in turn unfortunately can affect ours too.
This can be a time where a lot of mixed emotions are happening for everyone involved. From proud happy moments to a lot of frustration for some.

Your baby will go through multiple developmental leaps over the years and this can temporarily disrupt their sleep especially in the early years as there is so much going on.

These leaps are due to learning/ practicing a new skill such as:
- walking
- Crawling
- Rolling
- Sitting up
- Speech
- Mastering a new activity or game

Signs your baby is going through a leap can be Increased crying and fussiness, waking during the night and wanting to play, change in sleep patterns, frequent catnapping, & resisting naps and bedtime.

If your baby is going through a leap here are some things we can do to help during this time:

- stay consistent with routine where you can
- Offer extra support and reassurance
- Opt for early bedtime if naps haven’t gone to plan
- Change up the environment and pop them in the car or pram for a nap
- Maintain healthy boundaries around sleep and what’s expected.
- Take it easy and just go with it, ride the wave and remember to ask for and accept help! You need to look after yourself too Mumma!
If you would like some assurance and assistance putting your baby to sleep, send me an email or DM and we can go from there. Remember it’s okay to not be okay and it’s okay to ask for help! We are all parents supporting each other through our own journeys and are in this together! 💗👶💤

“Motherhood wrecks us. It tears us down and strips away pieces of our identity that we thought would be part of us forever. But oh, the way it builds us back up… Stronger. Wiser. More compassionate. It molds our hearts, minds, and bodies. It refines us in a way that only the tiniest of souls have the ability to do. We haven’t lost ourselves, mamas. We’ve just been made new.” 💛🌷

Safe sleep habits! >>>trigger warning**sensitive topic**
Safe sleep is a super important topic we need to be aware and educated about with our little ones to reduce and help prevent the chances of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

Did you know more than 90% of all SIDS deaths occur before 6 months of age?
Did you know 72% of SIDS death occur during 1-4 months. Scary right ? Which is why I’m talking about it now to raise awareness as it’s not talked about enough and needs to be normalised more.

Here are my top tips for implanting safe sleep habits with your little ones according to the guidelines👇

For bassinet/cot sleeping.
✨ ensure there are no blankets or loose items laying in or over the rail of cot or bassinet that could interfere with your baby’s breathing if they roll over.
✨ wait until introducing a comforter into their cot until they are 7 months as by this age they are more likely to be able to remove it off their face ect.
✨ always lie baby down into sleep space on back.
✨ keep baby’s face and head uncovered
✨breastfeeding is known to prevent SIDS
✨ ensure you have a safe, firm mattress and appropriate bedding for yo✨keep baby in a smoke free zone before and after birth.
✨have baby sleep in your room for the first 6 months.

For co-sleeping
✨ always place baby on their back to sleep to help protect their airways.
✨ Keep baby’s head and face uncovered by keeping pillows and adult bedding away from your baby. Use a safe sleeping bag with no hood with baby’s arms out – don’t wrap or swaddle baby when bed-sharing or co-sleeping.
✨ Make sure the mattress is firm and flat. Don’t use a waterbed, or anything soft underneath – for example, a lamb’s wool underlay or pillows. This can increase the risk of overheating and suffocation.
✨Tie up long hair and remove anything else that could be a strangling risk, including all jewellery, teething necklaces and dummy chains
✨ keep adult blankets away from baby’s head

The 18 month sleep regression>>>>
Is your baby around 18 months old and struggling to sleep easily?
Are you sick and tired of trying to figure out why the heck their not sleeping?
Here’s why… 👇
Your baby is most likely going through the 18 month old sleep regression which can be a tricky time for everyone involved! Your tired of not getting enough sleep and so is your baby. They might be cat napping and waking up after a sleep cycle, they may be waking during the night wanting to play, they may be distressed from being stuck in an overtired cycle and the only way they will fall asleep is on you Mama. I get it. I have been in your shoes. It’s a hard slog. But it doesn’t have to be! It can be fixed and so much easier than you are probably thinking. That’s why I do what I do. To help mums like you get your sleep and sanity back. To have a life again. Because let’s face it, we can’t be the parent we desire to be if we are sleep deprived. It just doesn’t work.
Here are some signs your baby may be going through a regression:
✨wanting to play and practise their new skills in their sleep space
✨ fussiness
✨ frequent night wakes
✨short cat napping
✨struggling to fall asleep in their own sleep space

These are all very common signs that your baby may show when going through a regression. Here is how we can help assist them through this stage easier and smoother 👇👇

✨give lots of opportunities during awake times to practice their new skills (eg. Walking, pulling self up onto furniture, talking ect)
✨ stay consistent where possible with routine- they love to know what’s next and to have a bit of structure!
✨ your baby may be needing to drop from 2 naps to 1- trial this to see if it helps

Twins!>>> follow for more sleepy tips! Having twins may seem daunting for some mums trying to figure out their sleep schedules, feeding times, and to try and keep them both on track, let’s face it.. it’s bloody exhausting right!! however it doesn’t have to be that complicated! Let me take the pressure of you a little and get you on a great sleeping schedule at least! Keep in mind we are teaching not 1 baby but 2 babies to sleep so there’s no doubt it will take twice as long adjusting to everything but it will be all worth while in the end for the results!
The key to a successful sleep schedule with twins is to get them on a feeding schedule first. We all know babies sleep better when their hunger has been met. Sleep training twins can either be done together in the same room if they are room sharing or separate rooms. Both options are completely acceptable it just depends on your parenting style and values.

My top tips 👶
- more than half of twins are born prematurely so it’s important to go by their corrected age while sleep training
- keep a sleep log to make it easier to stay
- Wake your babies up at the Same time every morning to keep their routine consistent and on track.
- on track and make tweaks as needed throughout the day if needed to ensure bedtime is the same time for both.
- Ensure sleep environment is appropriate and they have positive sleep associations
- Ensure they are both in a separate cot each to give them their space aw from each other and to reinforce the boundary with sleep time.
- Establish a sufficient wind down routine to help calm their active bodies and minds and to also make sure they don’t become overtired.
- If all else fails, bring bedtime forward for an early bedtime. This we’ll help them catch up on the sleep or naps they may have missed during the day. And most importantly, look after yourself mumma, you need time for yourself which is why it’s never to late to ask for help if you need it 💗
If you know someone with twins that could do with some help, tag them in the comments.

What in the world is a Circadian Rhythm?!>>> keep reading to find out! 👇

A circadian rhythm is a natural, internal process that regulates the sleep–wake cycle and repeats roughly every 24 hours.

Newborns are born without a circadian rhythm BUT are born with maternal melatonin, (the sleep hormone) which is passed through from the placenta. This is why your baby sleeps like a dream the first few weeks after birth.

Your baby cannot yet tell the difference between day & night.

When you notice your newborn falling asleep regularly and quickly, this is purely because they are tired and is the body’s natural response to self regulate.

So the maternal melatonin then wears off at around 4-8 weeks and this is when your baby will start catnapping and becoming more alert. It is then that we need to start implementing some routine into their day to help regulate their circadian rhythm which develops around 8-12 weeks. This will help them to learn the difference between day and night.

Some things you can do to help your baby with their circadian rhythm to start implementing into their daily routine:

☀️have natural light coming in during their awake periods

☀️your babies sleep environment to be dark for all naps and nights

☀️have set feeding times and awake times

☀️ implement a relaxing wind down routine at the end of the day.

☀️ book a consultation for some support to help set up these healthy sleep foundations which will save your sanity for many years to come!

The 8 month sleep regression>>>>
Regressions can be a tough time and can effect every baby differently! They are often due to your baby learning new skills and going through developmental leaps such as learning to crawl, pulling themselves up and walking, and can even mean dropping off that 3rd nap.
Separation anxiety can also play a big part as this often peaks around this time as well.
The 8 month regression is a temporary change in your baby’s sleep. It is a period of time that generally only lasts between 1-2 weeks when your baby may have previously been sleeping well, and is now sleeping poorly. This can happen anywhere between 6-8 months.

Signs that your baby may be going through a regression 👇👇

💤 short naps
💤 fussiness
💤 crying more than usual
💤 fighting sleep
💤 frequent night wakes

Some tips to help get through this phase and make it easier for everyone in the household!

😴 stay consistent with your routine and naps as much as possible
😴 trial and see if your baby needs to drop that 3rd nap and bring bedtime earlier until they can manage the longer awake time.
😴 give your baby lots of opportunities to
Practice their new skill during their awake periods eg- tummy time, learning to roll, toys to help them pull themselves up ect.

The dream feed!
What is a dream feed you may be thinking? Keep reading to find out 👇
A dream feed is a milk feed given to your baby while they are still asleep at night before you go to bed for the night. This might be anywhere between 9.30-10.30pm or even later if you like a later bedtime yourself. The aim for this is to help your baby sleep a longer stretch of sleep throughout the night to help you catch up on sleep. This generally is only useful if your baby is under 8 months old. Once they are fully established on solids you will find they will not need a dream feed anymore as they can get their calories in throughout the duration of the day which in turn helps for longer sleep overnight!
The dream feed can either work really well or not at all! If they are waking an hour after the dream feed then you know it’s not for you or your baby. Every baby is different and responds differently to dream feeds depending on their age and temperament.
Do dream feeds work for you? Or are you going to trial this on your baby? I’d love to know in the comments! 👇💛

Daylight savings is just around the corner and starts Sunday 2nd October at 2am!!

With daylight savings beginning, it’s only natural to feel anxious about how your baby will adjust to the clocks going forward!

We can move baby’s routine and shift nap times and bedtime 1 hour earlier then their usual times. We can do this by gradually pulling back their normal nap times 15 minutes earlier each day 5-6 days before daylight savings start. Some parents prefer to just wing it and play it by ear when the day comes, that’s fine too! But If you are worried how your baby will adjust, keep reading! 👇

Some babies may naturally wake up a little earlier than usual during the week leading up to daylight savings ending due to it becoming light so early in the mornings now so don’t worry, just go with it for a few days as it may actually help in the lead up and will help them adjust to the time difference. I do suggest waking them at certain times however as per the example schedule below.

Here is an example guide on how we can help our babes adjust to the clocks going forward for a child that usually wakes at 6.30 to start their day and has a bedtime of 6.30pm👇

Monday day 1- baby normally wakes at 6.30 but may wake up a little earlier. Wake at 6.15am if not awake already. Shift all meals and naps 15 minutes earlier bedtime is now 6.15pm.

Tuesday day 2- the same as Monday

Wednesday day 3- wake at 6am, shift all meals and naps 30 minutes earlier for a bedtime of 6pm.

Thursday day 4- the same as Wednesday

Friday day 5- wake at 5.45am, shift all meals and naps 45 mins earlier for a bedtime of 5.45pm.

Saturday day 6- wake at 5.30am, shift all meals and naps 1 hour earlier for a bedtime of 5.30pm which by then would have adjusted your baby’s body clock for when they wake up on Sunday morning at 6.30 again.

Are you going to adjust your baby’s bedtime or are you just going to wing it?! Let me know in the comments 💛

The 4 month sleep regression👇
The 4 month sleep regression is a normal and natural change for our babes. This can happen anywhere between 4-6 months roughly and is a permanent change to our baby’s sleep.

Prior to the 4 month regression your baby’s sleep is generally a lot deeper and you may think your baby is going to be a great sleeper! Which absolutely may be the case for some! But don’t be fooled! there are also some baby’s who’s sleep habits change dramatically around the 4 month mark and you may start to see frequent catnapping due to the brain going through developmental changes and learning new skills such as your baby learning to roll for the first time.

This is where your baby’s sleep cycles will change from deep, long restorative sleeps to short 30-45 minute naps. This regression can generally last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

This age is also a great time to start setting up healthy sleep habits for your babe and sticking to your child’s age-appropriate awake window which can help set them up for great sleep in the future!
