15/04/2026

The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been an essential partner throughout the response and early recovery phases, working closely with the Shire, DFES, and State agencies to ensure the needs of local businesses were clearly understood and acted upon. From the earliest days of the event, the Chamber mobilized its networks to gather real‑time impact information, support operators navigating closures and disruptions, and coordinate directly with the Small Business Development Corporation WA to activate on‑the‑ground assistance. Our rapid communication with members, practical guidance, and ability to connect businesses with the right agencies has helped streamline support at a time when clarity and coordination were critical.

As recovery efforts progress, the Chamber continues to play a central role in advocating for the resources and policy settings required to sustain business continuity and economic resilience. We have worked collaboratively with State Government agencies and industry partners to assess sector‑wide impacts, identify emerging challenges, and shape pathways for rebuilding capacity across accommodation, tours, retail, hospitality, and service industries.

Our commitment to standing alongside local operators listening, problem‑solving, and championing their needs remains unwavering. We are also working with State agencies to bring the Small Business Development Corporation advisory team back into Exmouth to provide free, confidential, one‑on‑one support in person.

In the meantime, businesses are encouraged to contact the SBDC directly, where professional advice is available at no cost. The Links to recovery funding that is currently available are located on the DFES Website click on the link https://dfes.wa.gov.au

We are also looking forward to working with the Shire of Exmouth playing a part in the Tourism and Economic Development Recovery group. I would like to thank DFES and the Shire of Exmouth for this initiative in the recovery phase.

Please email secretary@exmouthcci.com.au if you are having difficulty and require any further assistance. The Chamber is here to help you and support you every step of the way. Please note our central business hub has sustained damage and the staff are committee are currently working remotely at this present time. Thank you for your understanding.

Let’s Get Out and Support Local This Week — Every Little Bit Matters
After Cyclone Narelle, our local businesses are working incredibly hard to reopen, support their staff, and keep our town moving forward. And right now, even the smallest choices make a real difference.
A coffee on the way to work.
A meal with friends.
Choosing to shop locally instead of online.
These simple moments of support add up. You’d be amazed at how much strength our businesses draw from every customer who walks through their doors.
When we show up for each other, we rebuild faster.
When we choose local, we keep jobs here.
When we stand together, our community grows stronger than ever.
Let’s get out and about, share the love, and help Exmouth bounce back — one coffee, one meal, one visit at a time.
Together, we rebuild. Together, we rise.

And behind the scenes, we’re also working on targeted support packages to help our Retail and Food & Beverage operators through this recovery phase. - we hear you and with you every step of the way.

Cyclone Narelle – State Government Funding Update
As our community continues to stabilise and move into the recovery phase following Cyclone Narelle, the State Government has now activated a range of financial supports to assist households, businesses, primary producers, and local governments.
These measures—delivered through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA)—are designed to help with immediate hardship, essential repairs, business continuity, and the restoration of critical community infrastructure. Current State‑supported assistance includes:
• Personal hardship support for individuals and families experiencing financial stress
• Small business and not‑for‑profit recovery grants to help with clean‑up, repairs, and operational disruption
• Support for local governments to undertake emergency works, debris removal, and essential infrastructure restoration
• Primary producer assistance for those facing stock losses, fencing damage, or operational impacts
• Additional recovery measures that may be activated as assessments continue across the region
It has only been two weeks since impact, and the speed of activation has been appreciated. We understand further support packages are being considered, and we will continue advocating strongly to ensure Exmouth and the wider Gascoyne receive the resources needed for a full and fair recovery.
If you have been affected, please document all damage, keep receipts, and register your impact early. This evidence is vital for both grant eligibility and ongoing advocacy.
Our community has shown remarkable resilience, and we will continue working closely with the State Government throughout the recovery process to ensure no one is left behind.

The Premier’s Natural Disaster Recovery Fund is now open for those affected by Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

Financial assistance is available for eligible households, community groups and local businesses facing ongoing disruptions and losses as they recover from the disaster.

Payments will be provided in tiers:

🔸$20,000 to residents whose home has been severely damaged or destroyed
🔸$10,000 for those who have suffered major damage
🔸$5,000 to small businesses and community groups to help with repairs and recovery

📣 Exmouth Business Community – Important Update from the President
As our town continues to recover from the recent cyclone, we want to acknowledge the extraordinary resilience, cooperation and community spirit shown by businesses, workers, volunteers and residents. Your efforts have kept essential services running and supported those most affected during an incredibly challenging time.

With road access and air travel expected resuming, we know interest from visitors, contractors and transient workers will increase. While this is a positive step toward economic recovery, Exmouth is still facing a significant shortage of available accommodation as repair and clean‑up operations continue.

To ensure a coordinated and responsible reopening, the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce & Industry is asking all Exmouth businesses — not only ECCi members — to take the following actions immediately

• Inform customers, contractors and prospective transient workers about the current accommodation shortage.
Many properties remain unavailable, and demand is expected to exceed supply for some time.
• Strongly encourage all visitors to secure confirmed accommodation before booking tours or travelling to Exmouth.
This helps prevent additional pressure on our already stretched infrastructure and protects community wellbeing during this sensitive recovery period.
• Share this message proactively across your communication channels — booking confirmations, websites, social media, and direct enquiries.

These steps will help protect our community, support local operators, and ensure Exmouth’s reopening is managed with care, clarity and respect for those still navigating the impacts of the cyclone.

Advocacy Update
The Exmouth Chamber is actively seeking financial support for local businesses, including JobSeeker‑style assistance, and is working closely with State and Federal agencies to secure further funding to support our region’s recovery.

Thank you for your , patience and commitment to our region. By standing together, we can welcome visitors back in a way that supports both economic recovery and the wellbeing of our community.

Cyclone Narelle Business Impact Survey Now Open – Have Your Say

Our region has faced an incredibly challenging time, and your voice is vital in shaping the support that comes next.

If you operate a business in Exmouth or surrounding areas, we encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the Business Impact Survey. Your input will help build the evidence needed to advocate for recovery funding, compensation opportunities, and long-term support for our community.

This is an important resource for our region—collecting this data is critical as we move forward and work to access the support and assistance our business community needs.

Every response matters—even if your business was only partially affected. The more insights we gather, the stronger our case for support.

Please complete the survey as soon as possible and share it with others in your network. Together, we can ensure our region gets the support it needs to recover and rebuild.

Complete the survey with the link below, or hard copies are available to be picked up from Exmouth Escape Resort Reception.

The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce is reaching out to our sponsors and key stakeholders and supporters following the significant impact of Cyclone Narelle.

This event has affected many local businesses, families, and essential services across the region. As a small but resilient community, Exmouth relies heavily on the strength and support of its people, and now more than ever, that support is needed.

In response, we have established a GoFundMe page to provide direct assistance to those impacted. Funds raised will go toward recovery efforts, helping local businesses rebuild, supporting affected families, and ensuring our community can recover as quickly and safely as possible.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. If you are able, we encourage you to donate and share this campaign within your networks.

Together, we can help Exmouth recover and come back stronger.
