Dadima, or pomegranate, is one of the most rejuvenating food supplements in Ayurveda. It is said that the juice from the dadima fruit is the next best thing for the body after plasma. Dadima is beneficial in the treatment in various digestive problems like the loss of appetite, lack of taste, gas trouble, indigestion, worms, diarrhoea and dysentery. It is used for treating anorexia, hyperacidity, anaemia, urethritis, excessive thirst, general debility and fatigue. The whole fruit can be used and has medicinal properties, even the rind, and can be taken fresh or dried and ground up in tablet form which can usually be found at your local Indian supermarket. Dadima is tridoshic & extremely beneficial for the rejuvenation and recovery of illness. ๐ŸŽโ™ฅ๏ธโœจ

Qualities: Heavy, cool, unctuous, smooth, soft, slimy, slow & stable.
Time of day: 6-10am & 6-10pm

Kapha is the energy surrounding growth, lubrication & nourishment. It is responsible for forming the structures within the body, lubrication of the joints, tissue formation and providing strength.

Kapha dominant people are calm, extremely loving & compassionate and can provide a sense of nourishment & stability for those around them. They usually have a calmness in their voice, an excellent memory and an impressive amount of stamina. They are slow to rise and slow to get moving but when they do, are in it for the long haul.

Kapha folks dislike humid conditions and are not particularly fond of rain. They are usually of a strong build with a larger frame, with thick curly hair, large dark eyes, smooth oily skin and strong teeth.

Kapha imbalances can show up as greed, laziness & attachment, lack of motivation and bouts of depression. They tend to gain weight easily and due to their slow digestion & metabolism, find this hard to shed. They can be susceptible to excessive mucus, sinus congestion and colds, constipation and water retention.

Pacifying and balancing Kapha can look like rising early in the morning, vigorous exercise, small, dry, light cooked meals (cold, raw, wet foods & drinks are a big no), favouring foods that are pungent, bitter & astringent in taste, being careful not to oversleep and overeat, trying new activities, keeping the body warm and practicing the act of letting go. Fasting once a week can also be beneficial for Kapha.

Qualities: Hot, sharp, light, sour, mobile, liquid and slightly oily.
Time of day: 10pm-2am & 10am-2pm

Pitta is the heat energy within the body and is responsible for digestion and all metabolic activities.
It governs our Agni (digestive fire).

Pitta dominant folks are highly motivated, intellectual, natural born leaders who love a challenge. They have exceptional concentration & learning abilities and are the masters of discipline. In balance they are extremely cheerful and understanding.

They have bright piercing eyes, usually sensitive to light, maintain a stable weight with a medium build and tend to have rosy cheeks and soft hair & skin.
Pitta people shy away from hot climates and love cold food and drinks.

Pitta imbalances show up as excessive perfectionism and obsessive, compulsive tendencies, uncontrolled anger (think hot headed), jealousy, inflammation within the body, excessive sweating (usually accompanied by a strong odour), skin rashes, heartburn and digestive issues.

Pacifying and balancing Pitta can look like opting for cooler climates, cool rooms & cool water, moderate exercising balanced with adequate rest time, walks in nature, meditation practices to calm the mind, eating foods that are naturally sweet, bitter and astringent in taste, limiting or letting go of caffeine & alcohol and not taking oneself too seriously.

Vata is one of the three tridoshas that make up the functional energies that exist in everyone and everything. Each individual has all three dosha present within them, however will be dominant in one or more which will make up their Prakriti (constitution)

Vata dominant people are creative, enthusiastic, flexible and energetic, love to talk (quickly) and entertain. They can be quick to learn but also quick to forget.

They favour warmer climates and shy away from cold, windy conditions. They tend towards a small or slim frame, usually have fine hair and can suffer from cold hands & feet.

Vata imbalances can show up as insomnia, dry, cracked skin, poor circulation through the body, bloating & gas, weight loss and disorders or the mind such as excessive worry, anxiety, nervousness, fear and restlessness.

Pacifying and balancing Vata can look like warm, heavy nourishing meals, oily massages, firm daily routines, eating foods that are naturally sweet, sour and salty in taste (although be careful as to stay away from processed sugars & junk foods), hot baths & saunas and maintaining a calm & relaxed lifestyle.
