Vitalia

Vitalia We ship Australia wide. We run wellness workshops and have an in house naturopath. We were not always so passionate about natural health and well-being.

Located in Brisbane's west, we stock a wide range of wellness products, aromatherapy supplies, DIY raw ingredients and containers, natural pet care & lifestyle products. We didn't know about how our bodies worked or what using harmful products could do to them. We didn't even know what a harmful product was! We used to eat horrendous food, had cupboards full of all the name brand chemical cleaning

products (even if we didn’t use them all that much LOL) and just followed the masses in how to “care/suppress” for our body’s health. Our family was introduced to a more natural approach to life through moments where we questioned the safety of something we were doing. It all started with Reeda questioning cleaning practices used in the business she was working at when she was about 23 and how they could be affecting her health. It certainly wasn't trumpet blazing “ah ha” moments that changed our approach. It was a lot of "what if" moments that led us to looking into what we were doing and how it could be affecting us. We started to ask: What if this isn't good for us? What if doing this is causing damage to our bodies? Could there be a better, safer way? The passion for a more natural approach to live came through many years of running a pet care business and making big changes to how things were accepted and done “normally”. Many decisions made were the some of the first in the industry and not something that was widely done or accepted. Becoming parents and realising the importance our decisions had for the health and well-being of our children changed things dramatically. It just got real and we became a lot more focused on trying to make the best decisions for them and their long term health, and also the world that they would inherit. We (well Reeda) researched and researched and made HUGE changes and big decisions about what we would have in our home. We learned about the concerns of BPA in plastics, chemicals in shampoos and body products, makeup, air fresheners, clothes, food and so much more. It certainly opened a Pandora’s box! We made decisions not to use a lot of things because it never made sense to us to put something on and in our bodies that we knew was toxic. We were learning about and using all sorts of natural products (some Brad would bring back from America when he was over there on trips for work). We learned how the world had been created with pretty much everything we needed around us in the sun, plants, air and water and that we were created to thrive. We started eating organic food as much as possible, avoiding certain things and making informed choices, we certainly weren’t perfect, still aren’t, but we make informed choices now rather than just doing what is done. We didn't really have any idea about being able to make our own products and we just thought it was too hard and time consuming (We were wrong!). We were introduced to therapeutic essential oils when our 12 month old daughter struggled with a respiratory issue. Although we had a cupboard full of natural options nothing had ever worked as quickly or effectively. It was very impressive to us and made us want to look deeper into how essential oils worked. This led us to embracing a lifestyle that included using essential oils and opening our minds to the many ways they can be used. We learned how simple it was to make many of the products around our house that we bought elsewhere and could replace them all in our home with simple, cheap and safe ingredients. We want to share with and support others along this journey to live life to the full and embrace a more natural way of life. We have learned so much on our journey that we are excited to share with those who are traveling along the same path, realising that it will and should always look different for each person. We also want to make natural more mainstream, everyone can do it! Whether you are just starting out and feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything, to those who are ready to try the next step, to those who have spent many years and have a wealth of knowledge - we want to help you. We want to make it easier for you to find high quality products, ingredients and supplies that make a difference not only to your life, but to those around you and our precious environment. We want this to be a joint effort where we all help each other to find the solutions we need. We have a vision for helping people lead a healthier, cleaner life to the full, embracing natural products and essential oils. We want to make a difference in the world socially and environmentally and will always be looking for ways we can contribute. We love supporting those who are growing businesses with tools and resources that not only help them grow their business, but also support their customers as well. We want to provide the best customer service we can (with a whole lot of fun added in) and want you to feel like you are a hugely important part of this business - because you are. You are the reason we do this! We hope you find what you are looking for as you travel this natural lifestyle us and that your experience as you journey alongside us brings you solutions that help you live life to the full! During our last Simple Winter Wellness workshop, we talked about the benefots of fermented food and drinks in our diet to help with gut health and our immune system.

I mentioned that I also feed kombucha to our animals, in particular our chickens. We do a short ferment overnight for their food and add kombucha into the mix too.

There are so many benefits to their health, the main one is helping to boost their immune system. Kombucha is such an easy and effective option to add into your weekly routine to get some of that fermented goodness.

If you want to learn how, along with other simple immune supporting tips, join us for our last Winter Wellness workshop for the year on Friday the 12th of June. Full details on our website vitalia.com.au.

One of the most important thing you can do for your health and well-being is to look after your diet.

Did you know that 70% of your immune system is found in your gut? Did you know that a LOT of the prepackaged food we get at the supermarket has harmful additives in it? It can be easy to think just cutting out toxins from our personal care and cleaning products - but what we put into our bodies as food is what nourishes us.
The food we eat can either be the best form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.
It doesn't have to be a lot of pressure or time to change the way you eat. Simple changes and awareness of what is in your food is going to help you and your family to live a healthier life! You may even find yucky symptoms and behaviours disappear. The more small changes you make, the bigger impact they have!

👉Start by researching just one thing you eat regularly in your home. Read the ingredients and don't just take it for granted that it's "healthy" or "natural". Companies are very good at making us think things are good for us.
👉If you eat a lot of prepackaged foods, choose one that you can start making from scratch at home. You may be pleasantly surprised with how quick and easy it can be.
👉Do not trust a product or company. Read the labels! If you aren't sure what an ingredient is, check out the chemical maze app or contact the company and ask them what it is.
👉Be kind to yourself as you go through the journey. You have been doing the best you can with the knowledge you had.

Try making one new thing at home this week so you know exactly what is in it! We would love to hear what your favourite home cooked meal is

Many people have learned about the powerful mould killing properties of clove essential oil:
Add a quarter teaspoon of clove oil to a litre of water. Use a spray bottle to lightly mist the mould. Leave it for 20 minutes and wipe off. Spray again and leave. It can take up to 48 hours for mould spores to dry and drop off.

If you have a bottle of clove oil, you may think it is only good for killing mould. There are actually a lot of other uses for clove oil:
Natural insect repellent: mix 2-3 drops each of clove oil, peppermint oil and lemon oil in a spray bottle of water.
Head tension: mix a few drops of clove oil with a carrier oil and massage gently into the temples.
Fungal issues: dilute clove oil with a carrier oil and apply topically
Digestion support: Mix 2 drops of clove oil with a carrier oil and massage gently into the abdomen to help relieve discomfort.
Immune support: add 1-2 drops into your diffuser on it's own, or add some other oils like orange, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and/or rosemary.
Toothache: add 1 drop of diluted clove oil to a cotton bud and press onto the affected area for up to 15 minutes. Or make your own gargle using 2 drops of clove oil in a glass of warm water.

If you have some clove oil to help with mould, keep it out and try it for some of its other uses.

Have you ever used clove for something other than mould?

We know which one we would rather be putting on our kids!

It's coming to the time of year when we may need to use something to help support our airways during the cooler weather. Many people will reach for the well known vapour rub to help with those respiratory issues.
Not all these ingredients are actually listed on the name brand label, you have to do some digging to find them. We suggest doing some research about what the ingredients actually are and the concerns around them.

What if there was something possibly more effective that didn't have any of the synthetic or petroleum based ingredients.

It is incredibly simple to make your own chest rub that works and isn't full of synthetic and harmful ingredients.

What you need:

90g Carrier Oil (e.g. Almond Oil)
40g Coconut Oil (not Fractionated Coconut Oil)
30g Organic Shea Butter
15g Bees Wax
3 drops Vitamin E
5 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Cedarwood essential oil
5 drops Peppermint essential oil
5 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops Tea Tree essential oil
5 drops Siberian Fir essential oil
4 drops Lemon essential oil
3 drops Frankincense essential oil
Glass containers

What you do:

Place the Shea Butter and Bees Wax into a glass bowl and gently melt over heat using a double boil method.
Once the Shea Butter and Bees Wax has melted, add in the Coconut Oil and Carrier Oil and mix until well combined.
Remove the bowl from the saucepan and allow to cool.
Once cooled, add in Vitamin E and the essential oils.
Mix the ingredients together and spoon into the jar/s.
Let the mixture set further overnight.

You can adjust this recipe with essential oils to suit your situation and what you have on hand.

We have all the ingredients you need to make this chest rub, just add your own essential oils. Also available as a kit.

Let's be aware of what we are using on our kids and ourselves. There is sometimes a better, safer option.

Have you ever made your own chest rub?

Supporting your immune system is REALLY important. It is your number 1 defense against threats your body will come up against.
Sometimes we don't think about doing it until we aren't well.

What if we changed that and did things every day that helped our immune system function at it's best?

There is a quote by Hippocrates - 'Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food'
What if we actually looked to food, which has been created with amazing healing & supportive properties, as the means to keep us well?

This mix of powerful goodness is a great daily addition as it has so much support packed into a small amount.

Immunity Tonic
Add 1 tablespoon of chopped ginger into a blender, followed by a tablespoon of the coarsely chopped turmeric followed by a coarsely chopped lemon including rind and pith.
Continue to do this until your blender is as full as you want it.
Blend this together until it becomes smooth, then add 1 tablespoon of black pepper.
Blend again.
Add mixture into a glass jar until about half full, then fill the other half with a good quality honey.
Shake and stir until combined then leave overnight.
Take 1 tablespoon of this morning and night to keep your immunity up.

This is just one of the ways you can help to support your family's wellness.

Want to learn other ways to support your immunity naturally?
Come along to our upcoming Simple Winter Wellness workshops - first one is on Saturday.
There will be demonstrations and samples of a number of different solutions during our session, time for questions and you will go home with notes and recipes you can make at home. Space is limited so grab some friends and book your place for this interactive and informative session. Head to the website for more details

Fabric softener sounds innocent enough, who doesn't like soft fluffy clothes and towels?
But it’s far from innocent. I recently bought some leggings from an op shop and the smell radiating from them when I got home was INTENSE! I soaked them and washed them a number of times and still there is some odour. The headaches and irritated nose is a sign there is something bad going on.

According to the Environmental Working Group, fabric softeners contain chemicals and fragrances that can cause skin irritation and respiratory issues. The fragrance part alone can come from hundreds of different chemical compounds, and yes many of them are toxic. In fact, the chemicals used in dryer sheets and fabric softeners are considered some of the most toxic.

Fabric softeners are very bad for the environment, but they also contain chemicals that impregnate fabrics that can be released over time and absorbed into your skin or inhaled.
Among softener components are benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (irritates the upper respiratory tract) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen).

These are products that are used on clothes that we wear all day and linen we sleep on during the night. By using fabric softeners, you are directly affecting your family’s health and well-being, as well as those who spend time with you all day - it is extremely concerning! Babies, young children, the elderly and those who are already unwell are at more risk of harm.

If you still want to use a fabric softener, get your DIY on and make yourself some. It's super simple and not full of toxic ingredients.

What you need:
4 Cups Epsom Salt
1 Cup Bicarb Soda
30-60 drops Essential Oils (Lemon, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Orange and Lemongrass are good options)

What you do:
Mix together Epsom salt and Essential oils. Add in Bicarb soda. Pour into an airtight container. Use 2-3 tablespoons and add in with your clothes before rinsing.
You can add more or less oils depending on your preference for aroma.
Please make the switch and remove fabric softeners from your home and replace with a simple, safe home made version.

Have you ever made your own fabric softener?
