GREAT NEWS!! There is new funding avaible from 1st March for children who have difficulties with their speech sound pronunciation! This is the main area that that I treat in my clinic, so it's fabulous that more funding is now available for these children.

How do I access this? - You'll need a referral from you GP.

What's it called? - Diagnosis and treatment for complex neurodevelopmental conditions (your GP should know!)

How many sessions are subsided?- Rebates for up to x20 sessions will now be available with a once off referral

Note the previous rebates through Medicare for x5 sessions/year are also still available in addition to this new funding!

From 1 March 2026, Medicare M10 will expand to include stuttering, speech sound disorders and cleft lip/palate, giving under‑25s access to rebated assessment and therapy. SPA outlines eligibility, referral requirements and differences from CCMP.

Let me introduce myself for those who don't know me....
I'm a paediatric speech pathologist with over 20yrs experience who loves working with children who experience difficulties with their speech pronunciation. I take a play-based approach for practising new sounds, to make it fun and engaging for your child. I also can help with difficulties related to your child's language and/or early literacy skills, in addition to their speech difficulties.

I do have some limited availability currently in the clinic at Ferny Grove on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Stickers are a staple in my clinic!! Here's an activity with an older child where we were practising the 'ng' sound, as well as ensuing we included the helping word 'is'. I did the writing so the parents could then talk with their child at home about the picture we created together in the session!

With over 20years experience and a specific interest in working with children with Speech Sound Disorders, I am able to provide clinical supervision sessions to help develop your clinical skills and/or a sounding board for those more challenging cases. I offer regular sessions as well as ad hoc sessions as required, whatever suits you!

Sticker stock-up!!
I love using stickers in my therapy sessions. Here are some ideas:
- create a scene with stickers as reinforcers eg a farm scene, a building site, a racing track
- building vocabulary eg. animals on the farm, describing how they look, what actions do they do, how are they the same/different?
- targeting specific sounds associated with those stickers eg. sm - smiley face stickers, k final - truck, f initial - on the farm, s medial - dinosaur
- using different grammar structures or different verbs eg. aux is - mouse is....

Just some ideas to name a few.....

Wondering if you're child's speech is progressing as it should?
Here's a simple overview as to when most children are able to accurately pronounce different sounds. If you still have difficulties understanding your child's speech and they are 4yrs and/or in their final year before starting school, now is a good time to seek help to help get ready for prep in 2027!

Welcome back to the new year!! I'm slowly getting back into the clinic as the school holidays come to an end. I've also been working on some different projects and cleaning out the clinic.
