During Dementia Action Week, we’re sharing real stories that show the complexity of dementia and the difference the right care can make.

Maria’s mum Carol was once a devoted mother, church volunteer and puzzle-lover. But when dementia progressed, it brought confusion and distress. After a traumatic experience in another facility, Carol found safety and connection at Regis.

In this video, Maria reflects on the emotional toll of caring for her mum and how compassionate support helped them both find peace.

During Dementia Action Week, we’re highlighting the real experiences of our residents and their families navigating the challenges of dementia.

After caring for her husband Gordon at home without support, Meryl found comfort in knowing he’s now surrounded by people who genuinely care. “You know that he's being cared for. And that's taken a lot of worry for me,” she shared.

In this video, Meryl reflects on the emotional toll of caring alone, and how finding the right support made a difference, not just for Gordon, but for her own wellbeing.

During Dementia Action Week, we’re highlighting the impact of genuine connection in dementia care.

Fran was full of life, caring for wildlife and raising a family. But when dementia progressed, she became angry and withdrawn. At Regis, everything changed. Within weeks, her mum softened, smiled and reconnected with the world around her.

In this video, Tina, Fran's daughter, shares how the right care isn’t about buildings, it’s about people.

Today marks the official launch of Regis’ KM4KIDS supported by LifeChanger!

KM4KIDS is a 21-day health and wellbeing challenge that is focused on raising funds for today’s youth. Participants in the challenge clock up as many kilometres as they can to help raise awareness and support for LifeChanger to empower young people to live resilient and thriving lives.

Across our Homes, ribbons were cut, cheers were shared and the very first KM4KIDS Walk was completed, with families, volunteers and employees proudly dressed in yellow before enjoying a morning tea.

The team at Regis Greenbank also enjoyed a delicious barbecue, while Regis Nedlands were honoured to welcome an R U OK? Day ambassador who spoke with residents about the importance of feeling heard, cared for and empowered to speak up when things aren’t okay.

Resident Rob from Regis Greenmount said, “It was a wonderful idea and great to support.”

At Regis Magnolia, every lifestyle activity is shaped by resident input, creating experiences that reflect individual interests and aspirations.

Recent outings have included whale watching in Byron Bay, a visit to a local war museum, and a calming afternoon at an alpaca farm. Residents also took in panoramic views from the Q1 Tower, with one resident even overcoming a fear of heights thanks to the support of friends and the lifestyle team.

These moments show how our lifestyle program supports wellbeing and brings people together through shared experiences.

Today is R U OK? Day

It’s a national reminder to ask someone, “Are you OK?” because a simple question can make a big difference.

Across some of our Homes, R U OK? Day was marked with shared lunches, sizzling BBQs, soft music and plenty of laughter.

Cupcakes, wristbands, badges and quote balls were passed around as gentle prompts to check in and support one another.

Whether you're working in aged care, supporting a loved one or part of your local community, your wellbeing matters.

This R U OK? Day, take a moment to:
• Check in with someone around you
• Share a coffee, a chat or a smile
• Reach out for support if you need it

Let’s keep building a culture where asking “Are you OK?” is part of how we care for each other and ourselves.

Residents and families at Regis Camp Hill have been stepping into the heart of the Home with behind-the-scenes kitchen tours led by Chef Eddy and Chef Yen. From fresh produce to daily meal prep for 139 residents, the tours have offered a real look at the care and teamwork behind every plate.

“We wanted people to see the fresh ingredients we use and understand the effort that goes into every meal,” said Chef Eddy. “Sometimes what you can’t see, you don’t know — and now they do.”
