Our volunteers bring warmth, support and a sense of connection to our hospitals — whether welcoming people at the front desk, assisting patients and families, or working behind the scenes. Their generosity and dedication make a real difference every day.

We're extremely proud to unveil a beautiful new totem at the entrance to our hospital, created to honour the rich heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Crafted by Aunty Marie and Aunty Odette from KKAC Koori Kulcha Aboriginal Corporation, the totem draws inspiration from the saltwater people, the ocean, whales, islands and coastline — reflecting the diverse communities of the Illawarra. Footprints along the base symbolise walking on Country and our ongoing work together across the region.

Our staff added their own handprints to the base of the totem, creating a collective gesture of respect and commitment to cultural inclusion.

This totem now stands as a welcoming symbol of respect, recognition and reconciliation at Figtree Private Hospital.

💙 This International Nurses Day, we honour the heart of healthcare — our incredible nurses.

For more than 60 years, Ramsay’s nurses and midwives have shaped our story. They’ve been there through life’s most defining moments — welcoming new life, supporting recovery, and offering comfort at the end of life.

While the settings and tools may have changed, the compassion, strength and presence at the core of this work remain the same.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is a moment to reflect on the vital role we all play in creating safe, healthy workplaces.

At Ramsay, safety is everyone’s responsibility—from preventing injuries and reducing risks, to supporting mental wellbeing and fostering a culture where people feel safe to speak up. Honouring courage and sacrifice.

On 25 April, we pause to honour ANZAC Day—a national day of remembrance that marks the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 and pays tribute to all Australians and New Zealanders who have served—and continue to serve—in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping.

ANZAC Day is a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who came before us. It’s also a time to reflect on the values they upheld—mateship, endurance, and compassion—which continue to shape our communities today.

At Ramsay, we’re proud to care for veterans, service members, and their families every day. Today, we thank them—and remember them.

About Figtree Private Hospital

Figtree Private Hospital has been providing a caring, quality service to residents of the Illawarra for more than 30 years.

Operated by Australia’s leading private health care provider, Ramsay Health Care, Figtree Private Hospital has a long history as Illawarra’s premier surgical and maternity hospital.

In 2016, Figtree Private Hospital was transformed into a rehabilitation centre following the opening Ramsay Health Care’s brand new Illawarra facility, Wollongong Private Hospital. Figtree Private Hospital underwent extensive renovations including construction of new gymnasiums and occupational therapy rooms to deliver a range of inpatient rehabilitation, allied health therapies and sleep studies.

In February 2018, Figtree Private Hospital opened the highly anticipated Illawarra Early Parenting Centre providing day program and residential postnatal support to families with children aged 2 months - 2 years of age.
