On Friday 5th December, Finley Regional Care Auxiliary will be holding a Street Stall selling all things Christmassy - and we'd love to see you there! All donations are warmly welcomed.

Congratulations to our Kiribati team, who were invited to perform their traditional dances at the NSW Pacific Awards Night in Sydney recently. They are great ambassadors of Finley Regional Care, and we continue to be very proud of our PALM Scheme staff from Kiribati. This talented group also performed locally at the recent Griffith Multicultural Festival in October.

We’re growing – and so is our support for our staff!

We are pleased to announce that the new staff housing has been completed, and these homes have been utilised immediately, with staff members now settled happily into these new homes. These convenient homes are a necessary part of helping to attract staff to Finley, particularly registered nurses, which we have had to recruit heavily over the past 12 months to ensure we meet mandatory care minutes. These new homes offer comfortable living right near work, making life easier for our team – a win-win both for staff wellbeing and quality care!

This is just another step on the road as we continue to make significant progress in our mission to provide exceptional care and support to our community. By supporting our nurses and staff with quality housing, we’re investing in the future of aged care. This exciting development helps attract and retain amazing staff and ensures the most important people of all, our residents, continue to receive the best possible care.

The new Support at Home program, which launched on 1st November 2025, is designed to help you live well at home with a wide range of tailored support services. (This replaces the Home Care package Program.) If you have any questions or enquiries, our representative is available every Thursday to answer them in person:

October was a busy month with our Activities as usual.

We celebrated Oktoberfest with a BBQ Dinner in the outdoor areas of each House. There was good food, good company, a drink of choice and beautiful weather, and everyone seemed to have a good time. We shall be doing another one of these soon, before the weather gets too hot. Big thanks to the great catering team, our wonderful carers, and of course the great team in Leisure and Lifestyle, Meg and Deb.

We had entertainment, movies, and Peter showed more history videos, which is always a hit, and some residents are enjoying Finley Men’s Shed. The fabulous Retreat Dancers came and danced away the afternoon. We had Bus trips to the Model Railroader in Berrigan, and a trip to the Jerilderie Flower Show, with lunch in the park, as well as all the regular activities we do daily.

Some of our talented residents again this year entered Berrigan Show, with entries in the craft division, with knitted coat hangers. Shirley won first and Elaine a close second – great work, ladies. Thank you to Lesley (volunteer) and Agnus for getting these to and from Berrigan show.

A new My Aged Care website will launch on 1 November 2025 to support the start of the new Aged Care Act. The improved website has been designed with older people, their families and supporters at the centre.

The new Aged Care Act is here!

The new Aged Care Act 2024 and Support at Home Program have now commenced, replacing the Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme. This change aims to improve access to services, products, equipment and home modifications, and enhance the quality of care and support provided to older Australians, to help older people live independently at home for longer.

The new Act and program will ensure that people who access aged care services funded by the Australian Government are treated with respect and have the quality of life they deserve. The implementation process has involved provider governance reforms, readiness of provider operations and systems, and training and support for workers.

The new Support at Home program has introduced eight levels of support, and will also include a new 12-week program to help seniors recover from illness or injury. The old Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) will merge with the new Support at Home Program from July 2027.

Our Alumuna residents enjoyed a BBQ and a catch up on Monday 27th October. Residents enjoyed a BBQ lunch cooked by the Finley Regional Care kitchen staff, listened to music and enjoyed each other’s company.

Our Open Day was a great success!

We held our Open Day on Wednesday 29th October to showcase what Finley Regional Care is all about, and to celebrate care, community and connection. We were pleased to be able to show what we have to offer, with stalls from the Dementia Alliance, Women’s Auxiliary, Men’s Shed and Proactive Physio, as well as stalls representing each of our departments: Alumuna, Community Care, Finley Medical Centre and more. Our visitors took tours of our beautiful facility, and gave us some truly wonderful feedback on how fantastic it looked, and how impressed they were with the services we provide. We had visitors from as far away as Yarrawonga and Deniliquin join us!

The day was a great success, with plenty of visitors and fantastic feedback provided. We truly love doing what we do, and it showed 😀 🩷
