Aged care myth-busting: Aged care is not one-size-fits-all 👥

Every person’s needs, preferences and circumstances are different, which is why the right support can look different for every family. For some, it may mean help at home with daily tasks. For others, it may include residential care, respite, nursing support, transport, social connection or a combination of services.

At Finley Regional Care, we’re here to help you understand your options and find the support that feels right for you or your loved one.

Each year, National Volunteer Week gives us a chance to pause and recognise the people who generously give their time, energy and care to others.

At Finley Regional Care, our volunteers play a truly special role. They bring warmth, companionship and a strong sense of community into the lives of the older people we care for. Whether they are sharing a cuppa, helping with an activity, reading aloud, joining in a game, tending to the garden, playing music or simply sitting down for a friendly chat, our volunteers help create moments that matter.

Volunteering is often described as “giving back”. And while that is certainly true, it’s also much more than that. Volunteering is a two-way connection. It benefits the people receiving care, but it also enriches the lives of the volunteers themselves. Find out how here:

A mother’s love has a way of staying with us – in the stories we share, the lessons we carry, and the little moments that mean the most.

This Mother’s Day, we’re proud to share a special poem written by one of our residents, Robert Atcheson, reflecting on the beauty and meaning of the day.

It’s a lovely reminder to pause, remember, celebrate and say thank you to the mothers, grandmothers and mother figures who have made such a difference in our lives.

From all of us at Finley Regional Care, Happy Mother’s Day.

🌸 What we've been up to in April 👒

Another fun filled month in activities at FRC! We started the month off with an Easter Celebration Afternoon Tea where we had a spontaneous Easter bonnet creating competition. The residents separated into teams and had 15 minutes to create their Easter bonnet. Ken Taylor won the competition with his amazing strut down the FRC Catwalk! He had us all in fits of giggles! Very well done, Ken!

We had two students from Xavier College join the activities team and shared a lot of chats and laughs with our residents. We were very grateful for their assistance and kindness during their visit.

The Activities Team bought the beach to H1 with some sensory play! We had some sand, shells and water which bought back some happy memories and were great conversation starters.

An impromptu silent disco in H1 was one of the highlights this month as well. We were singing and grooving together and had a lot of laughs. We will be bringing more silent discos to FRC in the future after a great response.
