performing a deep plane facelift.

A deep plane facelift targets structures below the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System), also known as the ‘deep plane’. This technique involves careful dissection and release of ligaments and tissue planes to allow repositioning of muscle, fat, and skin to lift the soft tissue. Because there is no tension on the skin, a deep plane facelift provides a more natural appearance than other methods that only lift skin which can create a tight and unnatural appearance.

The deep plane approach is considered one of the most effective ways to lift and rejuvenate the mid- and lower-face, nasolabial folds and jowls. It is common for a facelift to be performed with a neck lift for a harmonious result.

Timely removal of wisdom teeth

These damaged lower molars, adjacent to impacted wisdom teeth, have been extracted. Extraction was actually recommended years ago but was unfortunately delayed because the patient remained ‘asymptomatic’.

Once a tooth is damaged, rehabilitation is more complex and costly. This patient and their dentist considered salvaging the molars, but this required endodontics (root canal treatment), prosthodontics (dental crown), as well as removal of the wisdom teeth. The patient ultimately decided to remove the damaged molars and utilise specialist orthodontic care to close the space with the retained wisdom teeth.

This could have been avoided with timely removal of the impacted wisdom teeth a decade ago; so thank you to our patient for permission to share their story for education.

Precision Planning

Look at the details that we can capture with an intraoral scanner. And no messy dental impressions either!

This digital data is often fused with the patient’s CT file to allow us to plan procedures virtually.

In this particular case, we are planning the insertion of a dental implant in a tight space; increasing the precision of the surgery.
