This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to be part of the Fair Access in Sport Network in Melbourne’s North West.

This partnership with Moonee Valley City Council and local sports clubs is dedicated to creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces for women, girls, and gender-diverse people in community sport.

Sport should be for everyone, yet many women still face barriers to participation. That’s why cohealth's Health Promotion team is hosting five workshops throughout the year to help local sports clubs foster respectful environments and develop action plans for gender equality.

Together, we can break down these barriers and create more opportunities for all. We’re excited to be part of the international movement to empower women and girls to reach their full potential in sport. Let’s !

Over the past few weeks, residents have started moving into the Make Room building on Little Bourke Street, marking an important step forward in supporting people experiencing homelessness in the City of Melbourne.

We are proud to be part of this project, offering on-site health and wellbeing services like mental health care, alcohol and drug support, women’s health, housing and social inclusion support, dietetics, physiotherapy, and podiatry.

Residents will also be supported by us to access oral healthcare, family violence services, legal assistance, and any other support they may need.

We know that a home is more than just four walls —it’s a foundation for health, safety, and opportunity.

By combining Unison Housing ’s expertise in providing secure, stable housing with our holistic health and social supports, we can create a pathway to improved health outcomes for some of Melbourne’s most vulnerable residents.

Extreme heat can have serious health effects, which is why we’ve partnered with the City of Melbourne to provide cooling relief to people who need it.

On days over 35°C, our City Street Health outreach team is on the streets, helping people access cool spaces and addressing immediate health needs.

For people experiencing homelessness, heat adds another layer of risk. We’re providing cooling equipment, refreshments and support to help them stay safe in the CBD.

Together, we can ensure everyone has the support they need to stay safe in the heat.

For 25 years cohealth’s Youth Residential Recovery (YRR) program has been a safe space where young people can get the mental health support they need while building skills for independent living.

What began as a small program has grown into a multi-site service with over 900 young people walking through our doors in Essendon, Reservoir and St Albans.

At our recent 25-year celebration event, we heard from residents, past and present, who shared how the YRR program has left a lasting impact on their lives. We also heard from our incredible former and current coworkers, who have shaped the program into what it has become today.

The YRR program meets young people where they are, offering a steady presence that empowers them to succeed. We’re proud of all the young people who have been part of this journey and will continue to support them for many more years to come.

On Monday 27 January, cohealth hosted a Health and Wellbeing event at Collingwood Neighbourhood House, delivering culturally safe health care and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The event connected First Nations community members with free health checks, mental health support, art therapies, and access to services like dental care and podiatry.

As part of our commitment to reconciliation, coworkers also had the option to substitute the 26 January public holiday. For those who worked, online screenings and reflections explored the significance of the date and the movement.

A big thank you to our Yakeen Tharn Health team and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander coworkers for leading the way.

Together, we’re closing the health gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people, ensuring safe, accessible care for all.

January 26 marks the beginning of colonisation and the ongoing impacts felt by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. For many, it is a day of mourning, sorrow, and reflection.

It is also a day to acknowledge the strength and resilience of First Nations peoples, whose culture, traditions, and connection to the land endure despite the adversity they have faced.

At cohealth, we are committed to deepening our understanding of this history and stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will continue to learn how we can better support the health and wellbeing of First Nations communities through ongoing collaboration and action.

We had an incredible day with our amazing cohealth team and volunteers at the Midsumma Festival Carnival on Sunday. 🌈

Our stall was filled with glitter, pronoun badges, Rainbow Shoelace Project beads, and plenty of fun!

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, share information about the services we offer and have meaningful conversations about the important work we do.

We loved hearing your stories and engaging with so many of you throughout the day.

As a Rainbow-Tick accredited organisation, we are proud to provide safe, inclusive healthcare for the LGBTIQA+ community, and we will continue to advocate for policies that ensure equal healthcare access for all. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Due to GP shortages, we are temporarily reducing our service offering at the Bicheno Medical Centre from 20-27 January 2025.

What does this mean for the Bicheno community?

• There will be no GPs available in person at the Centre from Monday - Thursday.
• A very limited number of GP consultations will be provided via telehealth and supported by a nurse if required.
• Out-of-pocket costs may be higher to access services.
• Wait times may be longer than usual.
• You may need to travel to a provider in a nearby region to access the healthcare you need.
• Our Client Service Officers and Nurses will work hard to identify the best way for you to have your healthcare needs met during this period.

Every day our City Street Health team walks the streets of Melbourne’s CBD, offering support and care to those who need it most.

Since July 2023, they have engaged with more than 1,200 people, many of whom are experiencing homelessness.

Our dedicated team of community nurses, AOD specialists, and outreach workers – many with lived experience – provide the tools and information people need to stay safe and healthy, while connecting them to wraparound services.

With support from the Victorian Government, we’ve expanded our services to meet people where they are, making it easier for everyone to access the support they deserve with compassion and care.

Most cohealth sites and services will be closed or operating with reduced hours over the holiday period.

cohealth medical clinics in Victoria and Tasmania will be closed from 25 December and reopen 2 January.

Outreach services will continue to operate throughout this time.

New research by Australian Council of Social Service and UNSW reveals people on low incomes are facing incredibly tough choices when it comes to receiving essential medical care.

For those on income support payments like JobSeeker or Youth Allowance, affording medical treatment or dental care is simply not possible.

At cohealth, we see firsthand how financial hardship takes a toll on people’s physical and mental health. While we work hard to offer services at little or no cost, more support is needed.

We support raising the rate of income supports like Jobseeker, so everyone, no matter their income, can access the healthcare they need.

Nearly half of all six-year-olds in Victoria accessing public dental services are already showing signs of tooth decay, according to new data by Dental Health Services Victoria.

Tooth decay remains the most prevalent health issue in the state and is the leading cause of preventable hospitalisations in children under nine.

Despite being essential to health and wellbeing, oral health remains out of reach for many families due to barriers like the cost of dental care.

Since July last year, cohealth’s Smile Squad team have delivered free dental check-ups and treatments to 6,755 students across 36 schools in Victoria.

By providing these services directly to schools, we’re breaking down barriers and making oral healthcare accessible to those who need it most – giving every child a reason to smile.

We’re so excited to see Grade 6 students leading the way in challenging gender stereotypes and promoting respectful language through the Student-led Gender Equality project.

In collaboration with cohealth, WHIN - Women's Health in the North and Fitzroy North Primary School, these incredible students created a storybook, sports activity, school audit and a superhero movie that all challenge rigid gender norms. 📚🎬

As part of the pilot project, students and teachers participated in workshops that built their knowledge and confidence around gender equity, empowering them to act against inequality.

With their creativity and dedication, these young change-makers are showing us how imagination can help build a safer, more inclusive world for kids of all ages.

Our residents came together to mark one year of the Buckley Street Supportive Accommodation program last week — and some even brought their four-legged friends to join in the celebration.

In partnership with Unison Housing, this incredible program uses housing-first principles to provide stable housing and wraparound supports for people with a history of homelessness and complex health and social issues.

Since opening in October 2023, cohealth has successfully transitioned 34 residents from the defunded Homelessness to a Home program and welcomed 47 new residents into the community.

Buckley Street Supportive Accommodation is more than just a place to live — it’s a place where people are getting housed, staying housed, and building strong connections to care and community.

We’re celebrating one year of cohealth in Tasmania! 🎉

Last October, cohealth became a national organisation when we began operating health clinics in Triabunna and Bicheno, improving primary care in the Glamorgan Spring Bay region.

Over the last 12 months, our team in Tasmania has grown. With more GPs and nurses, we’ve expanded our services and become more responsive to the community’s needs.

At cohealth, we believe the cohealth model is the key to improving the health of rural and remote communities. By working collaboratively with local organisations, we’re exploring how our model can meet the unique needs Tasmania’s East Coast.

Our Priority Primary Care Centre - cohealth at the Children's - has cared for 10,000 babies and children since opening in May 2023!

Through our partnership with the The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne we’re reducing the strain on the emergency department and helping children get care sooner.

Our specialised paediatric GP’s and nurses work closely with the RCH’S emergency department practitioners. While RCH focuses on the most critical cases, our team handles the milder conditions and connects families with ongoing community care.

Being located inside the hospital also means we can provide seamless support without the extra travel, making it easier for families to access the care they need.

This Women’s Health Week, we're highlighting the importance of culturally sensitive services to best meet the health needs of women from diverse communities.

cohealth’s Family and Reproductive Rights Education Program (FARREP) plays a crucial role in providing culturally sensitive care, offering free and confidential support to women affected by Female Ge***al Cutting or Circumcision (FGC). Our skilled FARREP team are experienced and trained community development workers who speak one or more languages of communities they support.

FARREP ensures that women affected by FGC can navigate the Australian healthcare system with dignity and respect, bridging gaps and providing the compassionate, culturally sensitive care.
