Preparing for birth isn’t something that starts in labour. It’s something your body begins doing in the weeks leading up to it.

Acupuncture is often included during this time as a way to support the body as it prepares for labour - with sessions adapted to the stage of pregnancy and your individual needs.

In the later stages, treatment may focus on:

🤰🏻supporting relaxation and nervous system regulation
🤰🏻 easing physical tension and discomfort
🤰🏻 supporting sleep and energy reserves
🤰🏻 and gently preparing the body for birth

In this video, Fertile Ground Chinese medicine practitioner & acupuncturist, Tara Hanaphy, shares how this approach is used in practice, and what birth preparation can look like in the final weeks of pregnancy.

At Fertile Ground, this work is always individualised and often sits alongside your broader care team - including midwives and obstetricians.

Save this for later pregnancy, or share it with someone preparing for birth.

You trained in massage because you care about people - and you know how powerful this work can be in the right environment.

This role is built around that.

At Fertile Ground, your work supports people through some of the most meaningful stages of their lives - fertility, pregnancy and postpartum. The kind of care where you really feel the difference you’re making.

The pace is thoughtful, the space is calm and beautiful, and the team around you work together.

We’re looking for a remedial + pregnancy massage therapist who enjoys women’s health, values connection, and wants to be part of something established, supportive and purpose-led.

If this feels like your kind of place, we’d love to hear from you.

Long weekend energy is a bit different, slower mornings, more shared meals, a break from the usual pace. And sometimes, a bit more headspace for those random thoughts to pop up...

“Should I be adding protein powder right now?”

“Is that something I’m meant to be doing for fertility?”

Short answer - sometimes, but not as the main event.

What matters most is your everyday food. Eating regularly, getting enough protein across the day, not skipping or under-fuelling. That’s what your hormones, cycle and energy are built on.

Protein powder can be helpful - especially if you’re vegetarian, busy, or just not quite getting enough in. But it’s there to support, not replace.

If you’re unsure what this looks like for you, our naturopaths can help you make sense of it in a really practical way - looking at your diet, your routine, and what your body actually needs right now, and where herbal medicine or nutritional supplements may be useful if indicated. You can start with a free 10-minute consult if you want a simple place to begin. Thanks to one of our Fertile Ground fertility, pregnancy and post partum naturopaths, Georgia Marrion .naturopath.nutritionist, for this healthy reminder.

Cold mornings call for this (like this morning!). A warm, easy breakfast we come back to every autumn and winter.

Stewed apples, cinnamon, yoghurt or kefir, and a bit of nut butter on top.

Warm, simple, and kind of exactly what you feel like when it’s cold out.

We usually make a batch and keep it in the fridge - takes a couple of minutes to heat up and you’re sorted.

Thanks to nutritionist and naturopath on our Fertile Ground team, Georgia Marrion, for this morsel of delight.

Save it for later or make it this week.

Can naturopathy support pregnancy fatigue and low energy? Naturopath and nutritionist, Georgia Marrion, explains more.

Low energy during pregnancy is something we see often in clinic, and there are usually a few different factors involved.

These can include:
🫄suboptimal or deficient nutrient levels
🤰poor blood glucose control
🫄not eating enough, or not eating in a way that supports your individual needs

Naturopathic care focuses on understanding what may be contributing in your case, and supporting you to improve this with personalised nutrition, lifestyle and supplementation where appropriate.

If your energy feels lower than you expected, this is something you can explore further with our team.

Gluten and endometriosis - are they related?

It’s a common question we hear in clinic. For some, it makes a meaningful difference - for others, it’s not the driver.

If you’ve been trying to work out what actually matters for your body, you’re so welcome to book a free 10-minute chat with Georgia - a space to ask your questions, feel into the approach, and see if it’s the right fit for deeper work together. Save this post or share it with someone who you know it might help 🫶

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

It’s a question many people have when considering acupuncture during pregnancy.

In early pregnancy, treatment may focus on supporting the nervous system and helping manage symptoms such as nausea. In the second trimester, people often seek support for musculoskeletal discomfort or digestive symptoms. By the third trimester, treatment may shift towards preparing the body for labour.

There are also certain acupuncture points practitioners traditionally avoid during pregnancy. In this video, Fertile Ground practitioner, Olivia Sizeland, explains an example and why.

At Fertile Ground Health Group in Fitzroy, Melbourne, acupuncture during pregnancy is always tailored to the individual and the stage of pregnancy.

Save this if you’re pregnant or planning a pregnancy, and share it with someone who might find it helpful.

POV: your hormones might be asking for breakfast like this.

When people think about supporting fertility and hormone health, they often think supplements first.

But in clinic, we start with something simpler and more powerful: what’s on the plate.

Fertile Ground naturopath and nutritionist, Georgia Marrion, regularly talks with patients about building meals that support:

• steady blood sugar
• healthy fats
• fibre for gut and hormone metabolism
• antioxidant-rich foods

This savoury amaranth pancake recipe is one of her favourites because it combines plant protein, fibre, healthy fats and colourful vegetables in a simple meal that can work for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Inside this recipe you’ll find ingredients often used in fertility and hormone-supportive nutrition patterns, including:

• Amaranth - a gluten-free ancient grain containing fibre and plant protein
• Flax seeds - a source of fibre and omega-3 fats
• Olive oil - rich in monounsaturated fats
• Leafy greens and herbs - providing antioxidants and micronutrients

Small daily choices around food can be a meaningful part of supporting overall health during preconception, pregnancy and postpartum.

If you enjoy simple practitioner-inspired recipes like this, save this post for later or share it with someone who loves nourishing meals.

You can also learn more from Georgia Marrion, one of our fertility, pregnancy and postpartum naturopaths and nutritionists here at Fertile Ground Health Group in Melbourne.

“Can I get pregnant if I have heavy periods?”

Georgia Marrion, Senior Fertility Naturopath + Nutritionist, gets asked this all the time.

The answer is yes - absolutely 🤍

But heavy bleeding can be a sign your body needs support.

If you’re:
• Soaking through products every 1–2 hours 🩸
• Passing large clots
• Bleeding longer than 7 days
• Feeling exhausted or dizzy during your period 😮‍💨

…it’s worth looking into.

Heavy periods may impact:
• Iron levels and ovulation 💉
• Egg quality 🥚
• Energy and resilience ⚡
• Conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, PCOS or thyroid imbalance 🧬

The good news? With the right assessment and personalised support, many causes can be improved 🌿

Our naturopaths work with you to:
• Explore potential root drivers
• Support iron and key nutrients
• Help regulate and strengthen your cycle
• Create a fertility plan tailored to you ✨

You don’t have to “just put up with it.”
And you don’t have to navigate it alone.

If heavy periods are affecting your cycles or fertility, we’d love to support you.

Book via the link in bio.

International Women’s Day always brings us back to the values that shaped Fertile Ground from the very beginning.

This clinic was built on collaboration.

For more than 25 years, practitioners, staff and community have come together here with a shared purpose - to support people through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and whole-person health.

At its heart, that collaboration has always carried something else within it: women supporting women.

Every day we see practitioners sharing knowledge, encouraging each other to grow, and showing deep care for the people who walk through our doors. Our staff team holds the centre of the clinic with warmth and professionalism, creating the environment that allows this work to happen.

As directors, we feel a deep sense of custodianship of this organism called Fertile Ground. Each year thousands of people place their trust in this clinic, and with that comes a responsibility to hold the container for the culture, integrity and collaborative spirit that allows it to continually flourish.

We believe something powerful happens when women choose collaboration, generosity and shared purpose. Over time it creates strong practitioners, supported families and communities that care for one another. It is a culture we remain deeply committed to caring for and protecting.

Today we celebrate the women who make this place what it is - our practitioners and staff team - and also the many women in our community who trust us with their care, support one another, and nurture their families every day. Happy International Women’s Day.
