Winter Solstice Workshop : Floorwork, Pranayama & Meditation
Ghatastha Yoga Method with Duncan Ewing Fri 20th, Sat 21st & Sun 22nd June.
“The real work in Yoga begins on the floor”
Meet and learn from one of the most knowledgeable and experienced yoga teachers in Australia today!
The rhythm of the seasons tell us that Winter is a time to withdraw inward – to be still, reflect, meditate. The emphasis in this informative yoga workshop is on floorwork, then progressing naturally into pranayama and meditation attuning our body, mind and emotions to the energy the Winter Solstice.
While popular images of yoga show impressive and challenging standing poses, many of the benefits of yoga come from floorwork. Further, beginners and older students find floorwork ‘easier’, but even the most advanced practitioners benefit greatly from a deeper understanding and appreciation of the finer details of seated and prone asanas.
Floor Asana are specialised tools to unlock specific areas of tension in the body. The asanas we will be focusing on will be lying on the front, seated forward bends, lying on the back and seated twists. There will also be some isometric strengthening asana that are crucial to protect the joints and nervous system when your practice deepens. Precise attention to detail of alignment, breath and mental focus in the forward, backwards and twisting movements of the spine ensures the maximum benefit from your practice.
Flowing from the asana practice, traditional breathing exercises are used to change to the activity in the front of the brain and bring a cohesion between head and heart. Meditation will follow the breathing to take us deeper into feeling and consciousness.
