Stopping is when a child replaces a long tricky sound like /f/, /s/, /z/ with a short, quick sound like /p/, /b/, /d/.
It’s called “stopping” because the airflow gets stopped instead of flowing out smoothly 🛑
This is a typical part of early speech development, but often fades by age 4.
Some examples of stopping include:
🌟 fun ➡️ pun
🌟 sun ➡️ tun
🌟 van ➡️ ban
