At last night’s PSWA 2025 AGM & Pharmacy Celebration, Naomi was awarded the prestigious Eric Kirk Memorial Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to oncology pharmacy and patient advocacy.

We had the privilege of speaking with Naomi about her journey, her innovations in pharmacist-led cancer care and what drives her passion for the profession.

We could not do our job without our highly skilled pharmacy technicians and assistants.
Your knowledge and support are invaluable to pharmacists and the patients we care for.
Thank you for all that you do đź’ś

Today is Pharmacy Technicians & Assistants Day! https://buff.ly/1Iz2me2

We’re so grateful for our pharmacy technicians and assistants, who play a vital role in enhancing patient care and the broader health system. With Australia’s ageing population and increasing medicine complexity, their support in dispensing, compounding, clinical roles, inventory and regulatory tasks is more important than ever.

As the role of pharmacy technicians grows and evolves, so too does our profession. When technicians grow, our entire healthcare team benefits.

So here’s to our dedicated, highly skilled and passionate technician workforce. Thank you for everything you do to advance pharmacy and strengthen health care.

Feel free to tag your technician/assistant teammates and give them a shout-out below!

We loved seeing PSWA’s very own Saloni Shah featured on the Australian Pharmacy Careers Podcast with Bridget Cleary.

At PSWA, we are fortunate to have her as a member of our J M O’Hara Research Grant Advisory Committee, where she helps shape the future of pharmacy-led research in Western Australia.

Happy World Pharmacists Day! 🎉

This year’s theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacist” celebrates the vital role of pharmacists in healthcare. We’re proud to see WA pharmacists expanding their scope of practice and this year’s PSWA J M O’Hara Research Grant is dedicated to supporting exactly that.

In 2020, PSWA J M O’Hara Research Fund supported the Medicines Management Mapping Project, led by Deirdre Criddle.

This was one of the first WA-based studies to explore safer medication handovers at hospital discharge and led to further work in the area by Deirdre.

While not directly referred to by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, the results showed how complex the challenge is. The work highlighted the very risks and gaps now being addressed in the new Medication Management at Transitions of Care Stewardship Framework.

We’re proud to have supported early research in this space and excited to see national strategies now driving safer transitions of care for patients.

📢 The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has released its Medication Management at Transitions of Care Stewardship Framework.

We know most medication errors happen when people move between hospital, home or aged care. This framework is designed to make those transitions safer and more coordinated.

Many in our pharmacy community are already working in this space, but the framework asks us to look closer: are there more steps you can take?

👉 Now is the time to read the framework, reflect on your local practice and start pre-planning how your team can embed these recommendations.

The Medication Management at Transitions of Care Stewardship Framework supports safe and high-quality medication management at transitions of care and is designed to be incorporated into existing systems, processes and clinical practice.
