A Yoga Seed

A Yoga Seed Restorative and slow flow yoga in Melbourne's West. From the smallest seed grows the tallest tree. Yoga teaches us to cultivate greater balance in our lives.

By learning to listen deeply to the subtlest sound from within and honouring the present moment, we can experience true peace. A Yoga Seed offers restorative & slow flow yoga for all bodies & experience levels. Tess' gentle and considered teaching style empowers students to feel grounded and at home in their own body, both on and off the mat. By learning how to attune to our breath, quiet our mind and rest our body deeply, we can begin to move more mindfully and gracefully through life.

Wren says 'sing your heart out all day long.' /
Stream says, 'do not stop for any obstacle.' /
Oak says, 'when the wind blows, bend easily, and trust your roots to hold.' /
Stars say, 'what you see is one small slice of a single, modest galaxy. Remember that vastness cannot be grasped by the mind' /
Ant says, 'small does not mean powerless.' /
Silence says nothing. /
In the quiet everything comes clear. /

I say, 'yes.'

"We give thanks for the blessing of winter:
Season to cherish the heart.
To make warmth and quiet for the heart.
To make soups and broths for the heart.

To cook for the heart and read for the heart.
To curl up softly and nestle with the heart.
To sleep deeply and gently at one with the heart.

To dream with the heart.
To spend time with the heart.
We give thanks for the blessing of winter:
Season to cherish the heart."

To allow some time for rest and processing Melbourne's current lockdown, I'll be taking a little break from teaching classes this weekend.
For anyone who is interested, I'll be offering a Yoga Nidra session free of charge, this coming Monday 31/5 at 7:30pm, via Zoom.
Yoga Nidra is a supportive rest practice with many benefits including relieving stress and muscular tension, deepening sensory and somatic awareness, and restoring balance to the nervous system.
If you would like to join this practice, just contact me here or via: ayogaseed@gmail.com
All online classes will resume as normal from the first weekend in June.

~~ MAKING SPACE FOR REST ~~
Join Tess for a restful 45 minute Yoga Nidra session tonight, available to stream live on Zoom, from the comfort of your own space: 7:30pm - 8:15pm AEDT.
Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) is a guided meditation practice accessible for all to practice, regardless of body type, injury, experience level, or age.
Comfort is of highest priority in Yoga Nidra, in fact, it is one of the few meditation styles that encourages a lying down posture.
This guided practice is trauma-informed, and you're welcome to join with your video on or off.

~ SLOWING DOWN / MAKING SPACE FOR REST ~

Thank you for being a part of my online yoga classes over these last 9 months. Connecting together virtually through yoga and meditation, has been such a precious gift for me this year. In the midst of many big changes and shifts, having this community to connect with each week has been so special and nurturing.

So, in reverence to the practices of slowing down, resting and integrating, classes will be taking a little break over the holiday period. The final sessions for 2020 will be (all times are AEDT):

SATURDAY the 19th of December
Flow & Yin Yoga at 9:30am

SUNDAY the 20th of December
Restorative Yoga at 6pm

MONDAY the 21st of December
Yoga Nidra at 7:30pm

In the new year, online classes will be re-commencing, so please feel welcome to tune in whenever you have the space. Also, if there are any additional times or sessions you’d like to see in the new year, just let me know. :)

The dates for first classes back in 2021 are:

MONDAY the 4th of January
Yoga Nidra at 7:30pm

SATURDAY the 9th of January
Flow & Yin Yoga at 9:30am

SUNDAY the 10th of January
Restorative Yoga at 6pm

Our story

Tess has been practicing yoga for over 15 years, after first being introduced to Hatha Yoga and Yoga Nidra as a young teenager, initially as a way to manage stress. Since then she has incorporated yoga into her daily life, recognising the ever deepening benefits of yoga, not solely on the physical body, but also its calming and clarifying influence on the mind and emotional body. As an approach, yoga feels like an ever evolving process of discovery, simultaneously expansive and subtle, personal and universal.

Since completing her 200 hour Teacher Training with The Yoga Social at the beginning of 2017, Tess has undertaken further workshop intensives with leading teachers around Melbourne, including a 50 hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training. She is also a certified Restorative and Yoga Nidra teacher, and will be undertaking further studies this year with Donna Farhi.

With a background in fine arts and creative writing, Tess loves weaving storytelling and play into her sequencing. She has a gentle and thoughtful approach to the sharing of movement, believing that it is our own bodies which have the most to teach us, especially when we are given the opportunity to dwell in moments of quiet and stillness. We are all artists in the way we chose to move our bodies and guide our own lives.
