Did you know the first Australian cricket team to travel to England was a team of 13 Aboriginal Men?

The team consisted of 13 Jardwadjali, Gunditjmara and Wotjobaluk Aboriginal men. The team played 47 matches against English teams between May and October 1868.

The team left Sydney in February 1868 and arrived In England in May 1868. This was the first time an organised sporting group had travelled to England as representatives of Australia. They played 47 matches against English teams between May and October 1868. The Australians surprised their competitors with their sporting prowess, winning 14, losing 14 and drawing 19 of their 47 matches.

The first event at Surrey’s home ground drew 20,000 spectators. The tour made headlines in England and Australia and remains a significant moment in Australia’s cricketing history, racial relations, and national identity.

The poster was created as part of the promotion and commemoration of the tour. https://collection.aiatsis.gov.au/photographic/kerry_king_001_bw/kerry_king_001_bw_n03160_06

The fifth myth in our series 'Debunking Myths and Addressing Misinformation' is that First Nations Peoples do not support the voice.

As with any decision at a national level their are diverse and valid opinions across the country. But the most recent polling from The Uluru Statement from the Heart confirms that First Nations People do want to vote yes. They want to see a reform in the constitution that gives them a voice on the decisions that will affect their communities.

Be informed. Make your vote count.

We all look at the world differently and we all have different views on how to deal with life. We need to remember that if you are struggling there is always help to guide you through the good and the bad times. By asking for help doesn't make you weak, it makes you strong, as it is this strength that we hold inside us that grows in each of us and enables us to become our own person with our own thoughts, feelings and opinions. This allows us to deal with all life has to offer. Stay safe everyone and remember help is just around the corner all you have to do is put your hand out and grab hold.
