"As a society, we know a lot about how to best support students to become readers and writers, and how these skills act as a protective factor across the lifespan. It’s vital that our systems work together to ensure we are opening those doors for all children. Working within the SOLAR Lab is a unique opportunity to
contribute to this goal." ~ Eamon Charles - Speech Pathologist & Academic Intern in the SOLAR Lab at La Trobe University, Australia.

Pamela Snow, Tanya Serry, Nathaniel Swain, Think Forward Educators Tessa Weadman The Little Bookworm Speech Pathology for Children, and Eamon Charles, academic staff at the La Trobe University's Science of Language and Reading (SOLAR) Lab explore some key terminology in education in their article, "Terminology in the Education Landscape: Some Key Terms Explained" published in the January 2024 issue of the Dystinct Magazine. The Little Bookworm has a new Mum/Owner/Director!

Dr. Tessa Weadman is the new owner of The Little Bookworm. She is a Speech Pathologist with many years of experience in a wide range of areas. She has a particular interest in literacy development and intervention in children in their early years of schooling.

The Little Bookworm team will be the same. I (Michelle O’Brien) will continue to work with Tessa 4 days/week. We also have Laura Elder, and Cassie Karanicolos, who are both full time, and Mel Anthonisz who also works 4 days/week. Of course our gorgeous therapy dogs, Audrey and Henry will also be staying.

We are very excited by this change. We wish Tessa all the very best and will all continue to work together to provide you and your child/ren the very best therapy, support and care that you have come to expect at The Little Bookworm!!

Happy New Year!!!

Just reading about Dylan Alcott’s press conference post tennis final. He talks often about removing the limiting expectations we have of people with disabilities.

One of the most important things I’ve learned as a speech pathologist over 30 years is that children constantly surprise me re what they can achieve, and so I’ve learned to never predict, instead, just help to provide them with as many opportunities as possible and let them forge their own paths.

It’s such a privilege to work in this profession.

Happy Christmas (to those who celebrate Christmas) and happy holidays for those able to take a holiday!!

Wow what a year it has been at The Little Bookworm. Over the past year we:
- Moved into our new clinic which we absolutely love!!
- spent lots of time putting the old clinic back to the way we found it
- passed our NDIS audit (HUGE amount of work)
- had our 10 year anniversary
- said goodbye to Kris (admin support. We wish her well)
- said hello to Cassie (speech path assistant in 2021, and Speech Pathologist in 2022!!!)
- celebrated
- Sarah’s engagement (although technically late last year)
- Laura’s engagement
- several significant birthdays
- survived multiple lockdowns
- became experts in zoom!

We provided 2643 therapy sessions to 149 clients and their families.

We have an amazing team, and amazing clients who constantly amaze me with their resilience and perseverance.

I would like to thank everyone who is part of our community in whatever capacity, and wish you all an amazing 2022 where we can embrace the journey regardless off its path

Take care

Michelle, Laura, Mel, Tess, Sarah, Mel, Audrey and Henry
