Shoulder blade tension can actually cause hand numbness.
Why does shoulder blade tension cause hand numbness?
Because the neck, shoulder, and shoulder blade area is a crucial passageway for
π nerves that supply the arms and hands.
When the muscles in this area are tense/tense for extended periods, the following results occur:
1) Muscle tension β nerve compression
Muscles commonly responsible include:
β’ Lateral neck muscles
β’ Shoulder muscles
β’ Inner scapular muscles
Severe tension can compress or irritate the nerves.
Symptoms include:
β’ Hand numbness
β’ Numbness in fingertips
β’ Radiating pain from the neck down the arm
β’ A mild electric shock-like sensation

2) Poor blood supply to the nerves
Prolonged muscle tension = reduced blood flow
Temporary oxygen deprivation to the nerves β numbness/tingling

3) Imbalance in shoulder-scapular structure
Such as:
β’ Rounded shoulders
β’ Hunchback
β’ Forward head posture
This causes incorrect alignment of pressure on the arm.
Repeated pressure on the nerves βnumbness
