Hear In Karingal turns 2 today!

Thank you to all our clients who continue to support us and help spread the word. Our mission is to provide quality hearing care that’s accessible to everyone.

In particular I would like to thank my mum, Julie, who has been the backbone of our clinic since day one. She has been fantastic to work with and is one of the best. Her friendly and caring nature comes across to all our clients.

As I reflect over the last two years, it’s evident that clients value locally owned and independent audiologists. Our authentic and compassionate approach allows us to deliver hearing services that are different to most; with longer appointments, continuity and attention to detail.

A few of the milestones we’ve achieved:
• We have 2000+ clients and 220+ five-star Google reviews
• Our Clinical Audiologist, Audrey, has conducted many comprehensive hearing tests and 320+ wax removals
• Being environmentally focused, 40% of our clients have rechargeable hearing aids, saving 4,900 single-use batteries per year (or 815 packets). We’ve also scanned over 6,400 pages (just under 13 cartons) to our paperless storage

The team would like to sincerely thank everybody who has put their trust in us.

This looks like a really good trial for those who suffer sudden sensorineural hearing loss.

Melbourne's Eye and Ear Hospital will be conducting trials where concentrated steroids are injected directly in the inner ear vs those who receive the placebo. Both will be supplied the oral steroid treatment as well.

We look forward to reading the results in the months/years to come.

Almost every day, a patient presents at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital’s emergency department with a sudden and mysterious loss of hearing. But the hospital’s experts are working on a solution.

Today, 18 October 2022, marks our one-year anniversary since the official opening of Hear In Karingal .

Having navigated through several lockdowns, we have surpassed 900 new clients, over 70 five-star Google reviews, and have been able to grow our team to five fantastic individuals who all share our passion for quality hearing care.

Our primary goal has been to provide a professional and quality service to people with their hearing needs within Frankston and the Bayside area.

Along the way, we’ve been striving towards being an environmentally friendly and socially responsible practice. Having fully digitised all client records, of those relocated files, we have scanned over 3,100 pages (6 reams of paper). 41% of our clients are fitted with rechargeable hearing aids, saving over 3,600 single-use batteries per year (or 608 packets).

Thank you also to those generous people who have donated their old hearing aids to Ears Inc, an Australian not-for-profit organisation which educates, trains, and equips hearing health workers to help people hear in low- and middle-income countries.

Being locally owned and independent, we value every client that comes through our door. I would like to sincerely thank everybody who has put their trust in us.

🇦🇺 ❤️ 🇺🇦

We've been quiet about this for a while, but when we received this picture (and with their permission) we thought we would share an amazing story of compassion and heart.

In April, we met Bohdan. A lovely young man from Ukraine. Bohdan and his mother fled the war in Ukraine and were welcomed into Australia as refugees.

He came in to our clinic late one night for an urgent wax removal appointment as he was struggling to hear with his current hearing aids.

Bohdan has a rare genetic disorder, Opitz G/BBB, and along with a list of other health issues including diabetes, spine curvature, disformed limbs, he also has a severe hearing loss.

He came in with a pair of 12 year old Unitron hearing aids that were worn out and old. It was a challenge for him to get involved with remote learning with his Ukraine teachers overseas.

Because Bohdan was classified as a refugee, he didn't have access to government funding for appointments or hearing services. *We are very lucky in Australia that we have hearing services funded under government programs*. Unfortunately, Bohdan had none of this. He was relying on the charity of good hearted people like Mark Dunham and his family.

So we reached out to Unitron Australia to see if they could help.

Not only were Unitron willing to help, but they donated a pair of rechargeable power hearing aids that we could connect to Bohdan's computer to help with his online classes. Hear In Karingal donated our services to make sure we assessed and fitted him with his new devices.

To say it was an emotional experience is an understatement. When we first connected Bohdan's new hearing aids to his phone, we decided to play a bit of Elvis. Then we played the legendary Aussie anthem by John Farnham'Your The Voice'. The smile on Bohdan's face was priceless.

A little charity and kindness can go a long way. We would like to thank Unitron Australia for for Bohdan.

This week we have had a number of hearing aid donations come from family members and wearers.

We are very greatful for their old hearing aids and will make sure they go to charity and find a new home. If you, or anyone you know, have any hearing aids they don't need, donate them to us and we will pass them on to charity.

Hear In Karingal are also focused on reducing our environmental footprint. Recycling is a huge part of our operation. Instead of throwing away your hearing aid batteries, feel free to drop by and put them in our battery recycling bin.
