What does it take to support athletes at the Winter Olympics?
At our latest Rotary Club of Mount Eliza meeting, we heard from sports physiotherapist Lachlan Heron, who gave us an incredible behind-the-scenes look at life on the global sporting stage.
From early mornings and sub-zero conditions to complex logistics across multiple Olympic villages in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Lachlan shared what it really takes to help athletes perform at their peak.
It’s not just about treating injuries — it’s about preparation, recovery, problem-solving, and finding those critical “1% gains” that make all the difference.
We also learned about the challenges Australian winter athletes face, often training overseas for much of the year — and the incredible resilience required to compete at the highest level.
An inspiring insight into the world behind the medals.
